It’s possible, trade out next years first to get a first this year for points
You must use your next available pick when matching bids. If we had Pick 2 and North bid with pick 1, we would have to match with that pick 2. You can’t bundle together a bunch of later picks and save the good pick.

Nah buddy, you have to match with your next available picks so Collingwood would have had to use pick 2. You can't just bundle up a bunch of nothing picks and keep your top end picks,
So GWS have won the trade by 1074 points - equivalent to pick 16.

Keeping mouthing off though.

If Ned had of kept pick 2 the following scenario would come into play:

Split pick 2 for a second rounder this year and a future first rounder next year. There will be clubs lining up for this to occur. You might even get two second rounders and a first next year.

Because he traded it a year early, to get into the 2020 draft with some second round picks, he lost all leverage.

It was a worse trade than Treloar and Stephenson departing.

It could have been either Daicos + Callaghan (If North didnt bid) in 2021. Pies would taken Callaghan at 2 and then gone into deficit for Daicos

OR

Daicos and some late picks because the deficit would have been gone if above trade was executed.

Or

Daicos + two first round picks in 2022 (one of which is guarranteed to be top 3 ;))

Horrible stuff.

Cool story dude.
Just keep up with the personal insults. Youre obviously a top bloke.

Might make it all feel better when reality hits about what s sh*t show you are in.

Best result from here is start from scratch. Get Craig Macrae in. Nick Daicos plus pick 1 in 2022 and hopefully Macrae and Henry and McInnes are all ok. That is a nice place to begin a rebuild.

But the 2022 spoon is almost already set.

Mate stop worrying about the pies and start counting your brain cells. I’ve got a calculator you can borrow if you need. You have the mental awareness of a lemon

Ha ha are you sure Ned Guy hasn’t been in charge at Sydney? Big salary cap problems in the harbour city. Will suck to watch quality players leave.

Bump

Not only did Ned Guy oversee the disastrous 2020 trade period he was also there in October 2018 when the Pies fought hard to keep De Goey when North came knocking AND did the Beams trade from Brisbane.

Just incredible.

Re-signing JDG in 2018 when he looked on track to break out into an elite player isn't that big a deal.

Kicking Treloar and then re-signing JDG on big dollars in 2020 is the real horror story.

the guy is a psychopath. Lying to everyone in an interview during trade week and then expecting people to believe that trading out Treloar, Stephenson, Phillips for peanuts was to make the team better. He is a legit psychopath to be able to look straight down the camera and lie about something that was never going to be believable. Odd

What do you think was supposed to say "We overpaid massively on free agents which didn't move the needle, now we have to decide to either absolutely go back on our word on Treloar or risk losing Moore/JDG/Maynard

Umm yes, just not in those terms. Pretty bloody obvious what to say mate. The truth. Everyone knew it anyway. It's not a hard one to figure out. "We've decided that for the betterment of our list long term we've decided that we need to move Adam on. This will also help with the retainment of many of our current players. We are disappointed to lose Adam but it's the best thing for our football club'. How bloody hard was that?

Equally compelling and uncomfortable to watch.

Tbh he did a reasonable job answering the questions given he was clearly covering up a fair bit.

Hilarious how much he pushed back on the draft, and emphasised bringing in talent after ousting three quality players.

I know the club was torched on the Treloar and Stephenson deals, but Pick 65 for Tom Phillips trade looks easily the worst deal among the three from a value POV. Hawks made out like bandits.
Collingwood literally got more for Phillips than for Treloar. Phillips is also probably the most ordinary player in the league

The truth was and would have been more appropriate and far less damaging long-term for the culture of the group. It's an uncomfortable situation, but actually surprisingly easy to explain - Treloar was considered an elite player when he was signed hence the massive contract, due to a combination of form and injury they'd re-evaluated his worth (as a player) and feel it is in both parties interests to move on. The club is bigger than the player etc etc.

Players are seemingly able to dick clubs around all the time with calls of mental health, homesickness and break their contracts - why don't clubs have the same opportunity to act in their best interest? Suspect the league still has a way to go in resolving these kinds of things.
