Ned is our very own unsung hardar#e
I regard him definitely as a work-in-progess. I just hope that he can make incremental progress each week. It would be very useful if both he and Ed Allan could progress each week so that both can prove to bee reliable & capable mid-field players by the end of this season. Let's see how both go over the course of 2025. Goodnight & good luck.

Could be. His technique looks awkward to me. And it's hard to improve kicking in general.
A little more composure would help too. Better decision making and eliminating the rushed dump kick. What I liked most about his game last week was his kick inside 50 to Hill. He had a rushed handball to a teammate near the boundary, but paused and took the better option.

IMO, Ned, looks more comfortable in kicking when mobile, because he's a big unit and lacks a little burst speed off the mark, hack kicking around the corner is his go to, if there's no option by hand. Improve that and he becomes a better player.

While I’m loving Ned’s rise so far this year, it’s of note that he got little attention in the pre-season, on here or in the footy media. He was almost forgotten.

And then he’s in the best 23 for round zero, takes his opportunities, plays a role the club has clearly designated for him and bang - a contract extension.

No-one saw this coming, except maybe the coaches. Another lesson for us armchair experts who often have no clue about the club’s plans and strategies.

Good luck to Ned but I would’ve waited before extending or would’ve given him one year. Need to see a longer block of games before committing.

And if he continued his form, other clubs would have come knocking. He’s a delisted free agent so an ez player to poach.

He’s only a kid, played 15 games, plenty of room for improvement still. At worst he’s very handy cheap depth for two years. It’s a sound decision to me. He won’t have a huge contract, would be just happy to have one

Just about to write same :beercheers:

Great news and support for these 3 players...

Collingwood is pleased to announce that a trio of Magpies have put pen to paper and extended their commitment to the Club.

Tew Jiath, Ned Long and Reef McInnes have signed two-year contract extensions to keep them in black and white until at least the end of 2027.

It was nice to go a pre season where no one was unrealistically overhyped.

Even the coaches didn’t have Ned in the round one team. He was a late in for Markov and only played a whole game against the dogs because of an injury to Reef.

Sometime you need a little luck to go way for the opportunity to to hold onto a spot so hopefully it’s Ned just continues on from here.

Do you know the terms? Two years on minimum would be good business.

They have seen him for some time now so should be able to make an informed decision. At worst he provides big body midfield death for a midfield about to lose generational talent. While these deals were just announced I expect they were weeks in the making. Probably before the season started.

Whether it is a good decision depends on the terms which none of us know.

He's 22, and they clearly see his improvement this pre-season and in the first few games. They view him part of the future so its a no brainer to re-sign him before his value goes up lol

He's going to be a huge part of our future. He's even got a bit of mongral and swagger.

Looked like a half-shank to me.

Never going to be an Elite Kick but could come good enough

As Jen2310 said Adams played that Role and he was not a Great Kick and could say the same about Mitchell as not a Great Kick

Just get the Hard Ball and get it to the Outside Players like Nick and Others and Tackle as well to have a Defensive Side to his Game

Yep, could be a role player. But. It'd be a miracle if he becomes as good as Mitchell or Adams have been.

Playing his role is all we require. Doesn't need to be a star or as good as the others. Do whats required of him.
