So it's pretty obvious we need a CHF if we're going to take the next step.

Options:
- A Edwards: has been battling admirably but is no more than a leading third tall slash high half forward type. Too old.
- McGuane: good backup in this position and worth keeping on the list but is not the answer.
- Vickery: IMO is a ruckman, a potentially very good one at that. Better suited to playing around the ground than in the forwardline from what I've seen. Should make his transition to no. 1 ruck over the next few years.
- McBean: is yet to play a game and despite his many good characteristics is very much an unknown quantity. Could be the answer but will still be a while off.
- Elton: forward or defender? Or Carlisle type swingman? Who knows. Does the club? Great contested mark, decent field kick, poor set shot, very mobile. Is he good enough?
- Astbury: same basket as Elton. Needs to work on his pace, which has capacity to improve given he's still recovering from some horrid injuries. Good field kick and set shot, decent mark.
- Griffiths: all the attributes of an absolute gun - except, it seems, gonads. If he can take the game on more and back himself to have an impact he'll be a great player and possibly a great CHF.

IMO it's time for us to start trialling some of these guys in the seniors. We've got nothing to lose and everything to gain from doing so. No use leaving them to rot at Coburg, waiting for them to develop new attributes. As evidenced by players like Arnot and Vlastuin, sometimes playing in the seniors is the very best thing for a kid's development. Being surrounded by good players and better structures is paramount to development IMO and a big reason why Geelong and Sydney's kids always seem to do so well.

If none of the above turn out to be good options... Howbout trying Rance at CHF? I think his attributes offensively are fantastic and could be of great use down that end. If we could either recruit another defender or put Astbury/Elton in his place alongside Chaplin and Grimes... It's an experiment I would be open to personally.

Thoughts on how we can plug this vital hole in our premiership squad?

Elton is a prototype CHF. McBean next year should be looking to get games. Jack would make a very good CHF.

JR is not a CHF, plays better closer to goals, does not have the speed. JR is a natural floater.

Whether McBean, Griff, Elton etc..or someone new we do need a CHF type on the half forward line for sure into the future.

totally agree we need at least one need a power forward type whether CHF or a FF/CHF type like Carey but obviously unlikely we will get a player of that quality.

Does anyone know how quick Boyd is??? If clubs do not know fans should be able to charge them with negligence IMO

boyd is not an option really. too young, would take just as long to develop as the talls already on the list. we wont be going after boyd.

at op, your description of elton sounds like a copy of cloke...
if we are gonna play 3 talls. get norths forward coach. otherwise go back to two and play another midfielder/ smaller forward

Boyd is pretty slow. He's 200cm and 104kg at 18yo. He may get quicker as he grows up and becomes more powerful.

if that is the case, for me , he is a risk, far greater risk than Omeara. I would not trade for the No. 1 pick on that basis

what's omeara got to do with it?!! is he your next target? to get our list perfect for a tilt in 2017?

seriously, omeara was not a risk, highly talented mids almost always come on. highly talented talls such as boyd however...

The problem we have is that Griffiths isn't really a CHF, he is a genuine FF IMO. That means the only way we can fit him into the side is to move Jack away from the square, either playing him at CHF(which he could easily do) or have him play the 3rd tall forward role and just get him to cover ground everywhere. Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon. So perhaps our best option may be to use Griffiths as trade bait for a side that is looking for a KPF and there are a number of them out there that are in the market. Saints, Dogs, Fremantle & Lions all spring to mind as clubs that could be interested.

Elton...I swear I heard when Elton was recruited one of his big strengths was 'he has a big tank', surely he can play the Nroo role for us and isolate Vickery and Riewoldt in the forward line?

Unless we play a traditional CHF role( instead of keeping talls deep inside fwd 50) all this is moot.

we really really really should play a traditional chf. its give jack heaps of space to work in. and we need some way of linking the forward line with the midfield. a chf gives us both of those. so why dont we have one? that damn forwards coach :D

The thing is RT. If we did trade him would we get value for what we might need in the squad ? I don't know one way or the other just asking.

We are the ones that will need a CHF against your guys next week. Pav has been reported! :(

For what ? I can't ever remember that happening before.

Good question. The only problem is that trialling in the 1s is over, so call it rotting at Coburg if you like but that's the new reality. They have to demand a game with form or they will have to continue to develop down there.
Personally I'm happy to see JR with the ball in his hands 70m out because he thinks well and uses beautifully. JR to Azza should be a goal every time.

Guess it depends on which club was interested and what they were willing to offer. A second round pick for Griffiths from Dogs or Saints would give us a crack at another top 25 kid
