A bit annoyed with all the threads referring to our hard draw so far and our supposedly EASY run the next few rounds.
This mentality will only bring us undone. We have to approach every game as if its Geelong I.E a flag favorite!!

It's a good thing that none of us on bigfooty are actually playing in any of the games.

Exactly.. The coaching staff will make sure that the players don't take any opponent lightly.. I'm expecting we will win the next 4 games
Hawthorn
West Coast (home)
Melbourne
North Melbourne
Freo (home)
Brisbane (home)

are all winnable games, will probably drop 1-2 games out of those but on paper we should be able to win those games.. Don't want to get too far ahead but a good run here and we are in a very promising position.

Like I said though the coaching staff shouldn't even be looking beyond sunday

I'm hoping the team would ve learnt their lesson from a few times last year when we 'beleived our own press' so to speak and were badly beaten as a result.

Yep knowing us we will drop the games we should win, but if the boys show the heart and maturity of yesterday we could also end up winning all those and be sitting pretty in the top six.

Adelaide (in Adelaide): WIN
Geelong: WIN
C'wood: LOSS
St.Kilda: WIN
Port (In Adelaide): WIN

Come on. Who got four out of five for this grouping?

Need I remind everyone that our back line is far from settled just yet:
Bower is a must and Walker not far behind on the back of his form before his injury.

Mclean is a straight in when he gets right and the likes of Warnock, Robbo, Grigg, Hendo and Hampson are hardly going to embarrass us if they find their way back into the seniors.
Yes, we will still have a few lowlights but we do have back up now and for that alone we should all be pleased.

It's why those well-worn sayings like "take it one week at a time" exist.

Realistically, we can beat/lose to just about every team in the comp depending on venue, conditions and how each team plays. The only non-competitive team right now is Richmond, because they're playing a mega-young side, and even they almost got the chocolates over the weekend. There are no gimmes.

Therefore we have to "turn up", "come to play", "maintain our structures" and all those other good things if we expect to win any of the coming 6 games of footy.

That said... 5-3 is well ahead of where I feared we might be after 8 rounds. There's only one performance where we were terrible (Bombers loss), where I thought both the Pies and Lions losses were honourable to a degree. And some of our wins have been superb, against last year's GF teams no less.

So the coming 6 weeks is vital. This is where we establish ourselves as one of the top teams in the league. Win 4 or 5 of those, and we'll be in the top 4, and will deserve to be. Get complacent, phone it in, and go 3-3 or even 2-4, and we're back in the milieu with all the other not-quite-good-enough teams.

One week at a time. :D

This is what I mean Alpha, lets not drop the games we should win.Realistically our next six weeks could see us cement a finals position.

I can forgive the loss to Collingwood. We played good football for the most part but they've been the best side in the competition, bar none, thus far this season.. To see what they did against an inform Fremantle side in WA on Friday night is testimony to just how in form a team they are. They're also a year ahead of us in regards to development and as such I don't expect to win those games this early on.

I expected us to start the season 3-5 or 3-6 but to finish the second half strongly.

I am concerned about the Melbourne and North Melbourne games back-to-back as both teams always give an honest accounting for themselves and neither die unknowing.

Although Hawthorn barely got by Richmond we're also getting them at the exact wrong point in time. A win against us could potentially revitalize their season, a loss and it truly is all over. They'll be fired up and they'll have the confidence going into it with the knowledge that they have been a bogey side for us.

Although on paper the next month appears to be an easy road ahead it's a dangerous one that will set us up for the rest of the season. If we do well (win 3 or 4 of 4) then we'll be sitting pretty at 8-4 or 9-3 and almost be a lock for September with very realistic aspirations for top four contention.

no easy games in AFL Footy, this week the Hawks are more than capable of giving us a pasting, we haven't beaten them in years, our backline struggles to contain more than one tall forward and they have two, in the middle they are no easy beats, their defence is struggling however they have the defenders to play on our smalls...

With Waite out for what i think will be 3 weeks, Bower and Walker still out none of our games coming up are easy, we're not on auto pilot ala geelong just yet...in saying that if we play well we could easily win our next four, but its a big if to keep up the intensity for two months on end. I'm just happy we can go into any game thinking we have a chance when i thought we'd slide back into the pack early into this season re adjusting to life without Fev. We're a better team than this time last year when we had him in there imo.

Hawthorn got us last year when they weren't travelling too well. They have their strongest side for the year in (poor timing for us) while we have a few concerns.

You can't seriously think that a team with Mitchell, Franklin, Roughead, Lewis, Birchall, Brown, Bateman, Rioli, Sewell etc, are going to continue to struggle every week. They are very capable of finding form again.

Danger game for mine, and another test.
