The last couple of articles to come out back up what i said as well.

Our club did the right thing. Offered a position and a salary for him to take it or leave it. I won't deny that I would of liked him at Tigerland. But that would of been icing. We got Ross Smith yesterday which is a bigger deal for us considering our on field defensive deficiencies this season. Matt Hornsby is doing an amazing job fitness side, we have the ME Bank center and the new Athelete's Performance partnership. Craig would of been icing, not a fundamental piece, hence we didn't play silly buggers.

Congratulations to the Dees, they got their man.
I'm proud that our club didn't overreact and up their offer.
I think that we should be shrewd at recruiting good people that are not necessarily high profile and cost a kings ransom.
We need to move on now!

Just like to blow my own horn for a second.

Ta - ta - ta!!!

Can someone please explain why everyone is so gaga over Craig? He coached the Crows for, what, 7 years(?) for a record of 92-74 or just over 55%(?). Not bad, but not brilliant either. Never reached a Grand Final, and hasn't taken his team to a PF since 2006. Sure he's got a good sports fitness and conditioning background, but surely so do a lot of other people who would come a lot cheaper.

... disappointed in RFC

we lose a chance to get a great fitness coach and pick up a coach who coached a very average backline :thumbsu:

we are very good at staying mediocre :thumbsu:

To be fair financially Richmond were never going to be able to afford someone the calibre of a Craig. The money is better spent buying down your debt.

Maybe now you've got Craig you might be able to convince Scully to knock back GWS and stay at the Dees!

And people say I speak shit.

What was the club to do it made him a fair and reasonable offer Craig decided to go elsewhere I suppose we could have kidnapped him and forced him to work for us against his will.

Is this why Melbourne got a bigger handout?

The distribution fund is not just about hand outs for clubs. It's also there to counter the likes of Collingwood and other side whom are currently successful who play more games in prime time thus generate greater revenue.

Yes the MFC have traditionally relied on these monies to survive, but we've done the hard yards, we've wiped our debt, generated a profit and then went on to raised even more funds to pre-pay the expansion of the football department.

This is why we got Craig and why the Tigers would be better served to pay off there debt. Any operating profit you make would barely cover the interest on your debt for crying out loud.

I did not know that Neil Craig is the second coming of Christ.

So he choose to go to Melbourne; that is his prerogative.

No one knows how his appointment will turn out after all it is a gamble.

Our debt is back to manageable and chomped a million off this year as well being able to spend healthy in football and partnerships and grab someone like Ross Smith. I'm sure we were able to chuck a little bit more cash at Craig, but you got to know when to hold them and you got to know when to fold them. More than I can say about the four clubs in contention. If Melbourne actually outbid Carlton (who can well and truly afford it) then you got to wonder if winning this pissing contest was worth it and do you have the revenues to make it back to the same position down the track.

Mate get the **** off our board seriously.

If all you did was to come in here to offer us financial advice then I suggest you save your breath and look in your own backyard before speaking shit to us.

We wanted him, but as an assistant not as director of coaching, he went for the higher level job no doubt with more pay, no problems there?

Exactly. WE are quite happy and confident with who we appointed as our senior coach ;)

What a depressing poster you are and your wrong, we got Ross Smith, good pickup I would say, why did we need an ex coach that doesn't have any premiership experience to coach our head coach who has plenty of premiership experience, we should be happy that our club didn't try to outbid Melbourne, Craig didn't seem to have much of a clue earlier this year when everyone else could see the Crows weren't travelling well while Craig thought they had the best youngsters in the league, he should suit Melbourne perfectly.

Collingwood also got a handout if I'm not mistaken, the reason you got Craig over us was because you offered him the job he wanted, we didn't, there is no point having a director of coaching that has never even got his team to a GF, trying to direct our existing coach who has played and coached (as assistant) teams to premierships, obviously Melbourne are hedging their bets when it comes to their new coach, we would need someone of the stature of Malthouse to be our director of coaching, someone that has a lot more experience than our existing coach.

Are you for real, look at the players in the Hawthorn backline then look at how little they give away.
Ross Smith is a fantastic acquisition, and we didn't even want Neil Craig as a fitness coach and don't really need him since we have a partnership with a major sports academy in the US.

I don't think the strength of a backline has as much to do with conceding as the defensive work of the midfield in the modern tactical climate.

Apparently you guys are looking to appoint Bailey as an assistant.

I'm sure some will rip into you for it, but I can assure you he would be a fantastic assistant.

A great communicator and teacher, which is pretty much what an assistant coach needs to be.
