New contract for Craig

The Adelaide Football Club has announced a new three-year agreement with senior coach Neil Craig.
The new agreement is for 2007, 2008 and 2009. Neil was already contracted to the end of the 2007 season, but this new contract will take him out a further two years.
Neil Craig started in the role of senior coach in Round 14, 2004. At the end of that season, he was appointed on a three-year term as senior coach of the Adelaide Football Club. His overall record to date, is 33 wins and 14 losses (a winning ratio of 70%).
However, the Club’s decision to offer Neil a new contract is not based solely on a win-loss ratio – as healthy as that may be. More, as Chairman, Bill Sanders explains, it’s about Neil’s overall performance to date; and the clear picture/plans that he has for the future:
“Neil has had a tremendous impact on our Club in a relatively short space of time,” Mr Sanders said. “He came into the role with a very broad background, and that has translated into an outstanding performance across the range of heavy demands as Senior Coach of an AFL Club.
“It’s also critical in this business to have a clear vision for the team in regard to its ongoing development – and the way we want to play the game now and into the future. Neil has that vision, and as a Board, we believe – as we have from the start – he has the capacity to be a long-term coach of our Club.”
Craig had previous roles as assistant coach and fitness coach with the club dating back to 1997. His elevation to the contracted position of senior coach at the end of 2004, came at a time when the club underwent and published a comprehensive review and planning process – especially in relation to the redevelopment of the List.
Since then, Craig – and his coaching/support staff – have worked tremendously hard to put that planning into action. He says, while the Contract renewal provides stability of direction, there’s still room for growth and improvement:
“This is an incredibly demanding job, but the support I’ve had from the Club, the Staff, the Players – and the Supporters – has been fantastic,” Craig said.
“As demanding as it is, it’s also a challenge that’s great to be involved with. Our players, in particular, have been outstanding in wanting to learn and develop; and the thing for us going forward is to push the boundaries even further.
“Personally, I’m really looking forward to us being the absolute best we can be, now and into the future.”
Chief Executive Officer, Steven Trigg, added: “Neil has quickly built on our want as a Club to be innovative and inclusive. People will have seen plenty of examples of that to date.
“But from where I see it, an even greater strength is communication and people management. And for where we want to go (in further developing the List), this quality is critical – giving us great confidence in Neil’s renewal.”
