Neil Young is a dead set genius. Not many people can carry off performing over 4 decades and not look like they've sold out eg The Rolling stones

Been hooked since i heard 4 strong winds as a 9 year old , 30 years ago !

Good set list too ! Jealous as ....

only one missing for me is Like Hurricane which i reckon would be fantastic live

I've just finished reading the Neil Young autobiography "Waging Heavy Peace" It's a must read for any Neil Young fan. It's fairly meandering but written from the heart (a little bit like his music with Crazy Horse).

Also very impressed by the latest Crazy Horse album "Psychedelic Pill" and super excited that I will finally get to see Crazy Horse live in March.

The discussion of Dylan and Neil Young and other 'old blokes' just gives me the excuse I need to again paste a link to the greatest line-up of 'old blokes' ever assembled together on a stage.

There are, in order of singing appearance from memory, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Two completely different but equally magnificent guitar solos from Clapton and Young at the end.

The backing band includes Steve Cropper (guitar) and Duck Dunn (bass) from the Blues Brothers (Cropper helped write Dock of the Bay with Otis Redding I think), GE Smith (guitar and 'conductor') from the House Band at Saturday Night Live and Jim Keltner is one of the drummers.

The song is "My Back Pages" is early Dylan. It's a ****in' cracker.
I am going to have to visit Lidge's Lounge on a regular basis. Missed this thread and obviously this post of yours Mr R.

What a sensational line up. These and others of their time are the really great musician's of the world. Just forget about so many people who have masqueraded as musicians in more recent times.

Well I suppose that makes sense coming from someone who was in his youth when these gentlemen were in their heyday.

I have a sad story about Neil Young's visit in 2009. Sad for me anyway. I bought tickets (on the internet) and then wrote the wrong day in my diary. For some reason or other I misplaced the email with the tickets and when I rang Ticketmaster to get replacements (on the day mind you) I was told that he had performed the night before. Not my finest moment(s).

I hope you're getting to at least one show in March. He was great in 2009,but I can't wait to see Crazy Horse in full flight.

Horace, my youtube clip disappeared. Here it is again. The song I was referring to commences at around 24.20. Clapton plays a typically beautiful guitar solo but Neil Young nails it right at the end with something pretty simple that sounds absolutely amazing.

Thanks Mr R. I was hoping you might have resurrected it. Just listened to it now and it is a beauty. "My Back Pages" is one of a number of tracks that I have on a 3 cassette (I think it is) Byrds compilation that I have (somewhere). That compilation is very "accoustic" and well worth listening to however not in the class of the version on your youtube clip.

Tha Byrds compilation also has some of the great music from Easy Rider, a movie I loved as much for its music as the story itself.

Everyone should :thumbsu:

I'm going to see him in Melb in a couple of weeks at the Plenary. I hear he plays a lot of his new album and multiple songs that go on for over 25 minutes, well at least that's the case for the US and Canadian tour, so doesnt play too many classics. Its a crazy horse too also so probably won't play any of his solo stuff.

I'll be there!

Recommend it for a non-Neil Young hip hop listener?
