Don't know what the story is for other states, but today's apper gives Nein's coverage schedule for World Cup games. And in typical Nein fashion, they've utterly obliterated any hopes for a decent coverage. Lowlights include:

Other than games involving Australia, the only preliminary game that will be screened live is India v Pakistan.
Every other game with either not be shown by Nein, or screened on delay starting at 11pm. These games Nein are delaying to the sh*thouse tend to be the better games, and because Nein has the rights, Fox can't show those games live. So the only option is to wait for the coverage at 11pm.
Coverage of Super Six matches are 'subject to Australia's involvement'. i.e if Australia are not playing, either no coverage at all or delayed to the sh*thouse again.
The 2nd semi final will have the first 4 hours cut and Nein will be going live 4 hours after it starts.

Good work Nein. You've done it again. Senegal v Paraguay in soccer gets the red carpet treatment, but cricket? Nah, Australians aren't interested in that.....

Dont know what paper you are looking at ??? but the one I have. (Herald Sun) these matches (other than Australia) shown LIVE in full.

POOL A

Feb 22 - Eng V Pak at 11:30pm (D/N game)
Feb 26 - Eng V Ind at 11:30pm (D/N game)
Mar 1 - Pak V Ind at 7:00pm

POOL B

Feb 9 - SAF V WI at 11:30pm (D/N game)
Feb 28 - SL V WI at 11:30pm (D/N game)
Mar 3 - SAF V SL at 11:30pm (D/N game)

There are some matches that Ch9 will show "2nd Inn Only" LIVE

These are

Feb 1 - WI V NZ
Feb 15 - SAF V NZ (!st Innings on FOX)

I think where you are getting confused is with the D/N games. Where your thinking is that if it starts at 11:00 it must be on delay

I agree though, there is no doubt that Free-to-air- viewers are being screwed again but personally (and selfishly I suppose because I have Foxtel) I am glad Foxtel has more games, their coverage ****es on Ch9, at least when Foxtel covers cricket, we dont have to be subjected to "And now Melbourne viewers must leave us for News and ACA, see you in an hour" AARRRRGGH

I was reading the Sunday times, so it's from the same News Ltd stable. And i'm 3 hours behind, so a 11pm start here is delayed if it's from the beginning. Also the paper clearly states that games starting at 11pm are 'delayed'.

Thankfully I have Foxtel as well, but that doesn't excuse Nein's incompetence. All it seems Nein are doing in Victoria is showing live just the D/N games that don't involve Australia, so they can subject them to the midnight shift without copping the flak from fans for not showing it earlier (because they can't). Given a vast majority of games are not D/N, Nein are snubbing most of the tournament.

And FYI, Australia's games against Holland and Namibia are not getting any coverage on FTA either.

How could the World Cup possibly not be on the anti siphoning list? Surely the ABC or SBS would take it on if Nein don't want it.

Why the **** can't Channel 9 show the ****ing Australia v Namibia and Holland games?

Because they consider there's a good chance these matches will finish early and will disrupt their schedule too much in the key prime-time slot.

I'm surprised people were expecting more coverage from Channel 9 of the World Cup. The last two WC Nine have covered (1996 and 1999) had relatively the same coverage - full coverage of the Australian games with coverage after 11:00pm of several other non-Australian matches. No way known they would cover non-Australian matches during primetime.

Yet no games vs Namibia or Holland.

As I recall, we didn't see the Australia v Bangladesh or Scotland matches on fta last world cup either.

I don't remember seeing the Bangladesh game, but I'm sure they showed the Scotland game in Worcester

They just did, every England v Sri Lanka match was shown in full. During prime time.

Yet the same sort of matches in the WORLD CUP don't command similar treatment? Nein was more than willing to show Germany beating the sh*t out of some poor mob from the middle east in soccer, but are going to ignore much more competitive match ups in a game that commands far more interest in this country?

Also be interesting to see the public response to the FTA blackout of 2 Australian games (particularly the Namibia game, which is our 2nd last group game) if it became critical to advance to the 2nd round, or even worse, if it actually was competitive?

I suppose no-one was really expecting anything better than pathetic coverage, but that doesn't make the programmers at Nein any less of a mighty bunch of c*cksuckers.

In the 1996 WC, Channel 9 only showed Australia's match against Kenya on delay late, several hours after the match had been played.

In the 1999 WC, Channel 9 showed only the 2nd Innings of the matches against Scotland and Bangladesh, beginning somewhere after 11:00pm.

I guess the backward step in Nine's coverage this time is that we won't be seeing any of Australia's matches against cricketing minnows, as they will be fully covered by Foxtel.

Your right. I remember watching the Kenyan game on TV and then taping the rest. It had McDermott getting injured.

I don't remember the Bangladesh game, but definately the Scotland game.

it's been apparent for years that sport should not be covered on free to air television. the networks cannot do justice to cricket, nbl, nsl, tennis, etc.

sports should be scheduled on sports channels, and news on news channels. i don't want a network station such as nein, that has various commitments, to interrupt sports coverage for non-sports things, such as news, current affairs, bali bombing, shuttle disintegration etc. harsh, but i should be able to choose to watch sport uninterrupted, or turn to a news station to catch up with the days events.

the number of examples where free to air television has lied to the public re live coverage are too numerous to mention.
