Opinion New AFC HQ (Part 2): Dale dug a hole

I drove past it on Saturday. Agreed, it really is enormous.

The amount of work along South Road is also staggering in scale.
Bubble burst :moustache:.....but all the AFL Clubs have similar constructions to the Crows .....partly dictated by the ovals ...but also the fact the industry just copies each other

And every Club says, they have state-of-the-art facilities .....they all can't be right

What?

You seemed to have replied to some other post, makes no sense.

It was in reference to how big the facility is .....I'm simply saying, all AFL Clubs have big facilities that look the same as the Crows

Is anyone able to give us country people a recent pic and update on the site please?
Not the best pics as they were taken from a truck. This was from Thursday 23.

Most of the 1's in the western suburbs will be finished soon and will make a massive difference to traffic flows in places that probably should've been addressed a decade ago

The Marion Rd and Morphett Rd tram crossings close to Anzac Hwy are already an improvement and they haven't finished them yet (still speed restrictions and occasional lane closures)

Marion Rd and Sir Donald Bradman Drive has been a massive improvement in traffic flow.

The Holbrooks Rd, Grange Rd and East Ave modification will transform peak hour traffic through that bottleneck as well.

Might see more folk avoiding South Rd over next few years once they're completed and that may have been part of the rationale to get them out of the way now. The 2 tram crossing upgrades did make sense though while the line was closed due to the massive changes being made at the South Rd crossing.
That's exactly why they did them, because they knew what was coming.

e.g. from the Holbrooks Rd announcement

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport is upgrading the intersection of Grange Road, Holbrooks Road and East Avenue to relieve congestion and improve safety and connectivity for all road users at this location.

The upgrade will remove a staggered intersection and create a direct connection across Grange Road between Holbrooks Road and East Avenue. This project being delivered as part of an $850 million suite of projects designed to ensure Adelaide’s road network functions efficiently during construction of the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project, and once it has been completed.

Some of them are necessary. They're doing the James congdon/sir Don brad intersection god knows why. Seems like they're doing a lot of work for economic stimulation. Surely there are regional roads in dire need of work that would be better

Because there becomes a bottle neck with traffic going north on Marion Road and most wanting to go left to the airport.

The airport location restricts traffic flow in Adelaide.

My guess is to try and push or funnel more traffic around South Rd from James Congdon Dr to Port Rd

The worst bottle neck is now generally from Richmond Rd to Ashwin Parade (essentially the start of the motorway north atm)

He means the works on James Congdon Dr, near Bunnings in Mile End (the stretch between South Rd and Henley Beach Rd)

Ok, my error.

This might also be indirectly to do with South Road. A turn right lane into the city so traffic up South Road who work in the northern part of the CBD don’t need to turn right at South Road/Anzac Highway they can do it here. Just a thought.

Because everyone will be going on JCD instead of South Road when they're doing the cut portion there, so they are making that intersection much bigger in every direction.

Not talking about that one

James Congdon x Sir Don is part of the North-South Motorway project, as the on and off ramps at James Congdon from the Motorway are expected to be load bearing - most of the intersection and level crossing upgrades going on at the moment are either an extension of the North-South Motorway, or are being done as alleviation in response to traffic moving off South and onto Marion/Goodwood/Port/etc due to construction.

Other recent intersection upgrades have been about removing old doglegs to cut out a light set and improve traffic flow, ie Goodwood X Springbank/Daws, the in progress Main South x Aldinga/Aldinga Beach and duplication (Does this count as regional anymore?), the impending South x Raglan/Edward, or removing big multiroad rail level crossings at Oaklands and Ovingham. The only one without much sense is Cross x Fullarton, which is easily explained by stating that it was a Liberal project, though CivEng friends insist it actually had a good reason (I still dispute).

Upcoming regional road improvements include the Truro Bypass, and the Swanport Bridge duplication in Murray Bridge, and a recently finished one was the Port Wakefield Highway Duplication and Overpass.

SA does not lack for road infrastructure spending and projects.

not a moment too soon with that one - you could see with the old set up if people weren't familiar with the intersection they could easily enter the wrong lane
