is it going to remain Thebarton Oval or are they likely to sell out and make it something stupid like OTR Arena or something just as heinous?

We’d be mad if we didn’t monetise it. No way we forego $ to protect the hallowed ‘Thebarton Oval’.

I drive past there from time to time. Am I correct in observing that the development of South Road there is happening simultaneously?

The third TBM is undergoing factory trials ahead of shipping early next year, so the construction precinct where it will be assembled, housed, and then set off from needs to be ready for it by then.

The parts for the second TBM just arrived, and they'll be moved to Clovelly Park where it and the first TBM will be assembled and housed in that enormous steel frame warehouse being built roughly where the Tonsley Hotel used to be.

All systems go, as they'll be boring the southern and northern tunnels at the same time starting the second half of next year (only one machine for the north, as the tunnels are only half as long so it will be spun around to do both in the same time as each long one is done simultaneously in the south)

Are they launching the northern one from that intersection?

Also where did you get this level of detail?

I assumed the big shed was for the precast concrete for the tunnel lining?

I think the northern one is launching from that end at least Actually I was wrong, it's going to start from Richmond and go north. The actual bored part of the tunnel stops at about Ashley St, with cut-and-cover from there to Ashwin. Cut and cover is where they build it more or less just like the trench motorway, then put a roof on it and backfill, so they can reconnect the surface parts of South Rd over it, and build various parks and other structures.

Actually has quite a bit of information, the surface works map and the project map in particular, including good artist renditions of the parts eventually visible from the surface, and a rough rendition of what the AFC HQ and adjusted oval will look like. The blue lines are the bored tunnels, and the light blue rectanlges between them will be safety access passages connecting them at regular intervals.

Good point, also could be both. I only drive past and back one day a fortnight and am usually too busy keeping my distance from peanuts and making sure I don't clip any misplaced cones, I'll see if I can get a better look at some point. Tis a mighty tall warehouse though.

Actually I reckon I remember someone on one of the Facebook posts saying it will be a spoil storage shed.
There’s mention of that on their website.
