New AFL Game

One thing I would like to see on an AFL game are these...

1. Construct a league (plus build your own stadium!)
2. State of Origin (your state would be where your team is based)
3. Hidden stadiums (ones used in Pre-Season comps. Darwin, Canberra, Cairns, Hobart)
4. Hidden International Rules mode! :D

Maybe a face-off setting where you can get into fights!

I think you wont see things like that until AFL Live 2004/05.

i'd much rather they work on gameplay and realistic movement before they tackled these...

I don't know why you guys are so worked up about it, the game will suck big time, only EA Sports are qualified to make sports games (yes, I am well aware that AFL '98 and '99 were made by EA Sports).

Excuse me while i p|ss myself laughing.

Heh, SEGA can do it, but only Virtua Tennis was of any real quality.

I just think that most other companies that attempt to make sports games end up with this awful 'arcade' feel.

Sega have been serving EA's arse to them for the past 3 years with their NBA & NHL games. Don't tell me you've been missing out!? (and some would argue NFL as well, but the gap between NFL2k2 and Madden isn't as great as the others)

Konami well and truly served EA's arse to them with Winning Eleven 5 and 6 (Pro Evolution Soccer 1 & 2), and i could show you a Japanese Sega golf game in an "arcade" style (gasp!) that p|sses all over EA's poor excuse of a golf game when it comes to the gameplay side of it.

EA's cricket game is pathetic - where's the gameplay?????? What is there to get better at? Pressing a button? Pathetic.

Games are supposed to be innovative. When was the last remotely innovative sports game EA made?

To say that "only Virtua Tennis was of any real quality" only makes you look silly.

btw, i have a feeling we *COULD* be in for a little surprise with this AFL game, and i was as sceptical as anybody when it was announced. I think it will certainly be the best AFL game thus far, but whether it's actually any GOOD or not and worth playing.....

Found a preview of the game from an American perspective, makes for an 'interesting' read I guess. Follow the link...

Theres heaps of photos and movies there, but be warned, non-members of the site are only allowed to view 5 in total so choose carefully!

It's actually very refreshing to get a review on an Australian sports game from overseas. Good find there Outkast:)

NBA2K3 won't be released in Australia I was told today

Got an AFL Live 2003 demo CD in my hand now and will tell you all about it in an hour or so :D

Played with it for about an hour and got bored with it

Only a 1 quarter demo with Essendon vs. Brisbane in 'quick play' mode

If you are expecting to be blown away by the game forget it

Looks and feels pretty reminiscent to an EA soccer game with switching between players and going closest to the ball to become the 'ball player'

The players look like blocks running around all very square look and robot like plus the stadium backgrounding is pretty ordinary compared to other sports games I've seen

Quarterbrain & Lyon seem OK but with only a rushed quarter you can't tell how much repeat commentary will come up through a full game

If you push me for a final comment - actual gameplay isn't much different (or better) than AFL 98 on the old PS1 but has better 3Ded graphics (as it should), more of a kiddies arcade style game that once you beat it, it will stay in the bottom of the cupboard I'd say

It's not awful, but won't win any awards, mid range game crud in other words
