I think it would be a good idea for big ant to update their site. I think the site needs alot of updating, with current info.

It's about consolidation.

Wii title costs less to make but has the wider market to sell so they're getting whatever they can out early to make sure people know there is a Wii version and get your pre-orders on now.

PS3/360/PC versions will cost more to make and have a lower profit margin, so the marketing campaign and release of info has to be very concentrated and intense to make sure they get as many pre-orders and sales as possible. If they release info too early, they run the risk of people forgetting to pre-order or just forgetting about the game altogether.

That's my take anyway.Wii version.GOD this is getting annoying. What the **** do whispers know? Seriously! We have the CEO of BigAnt right here on the site, do you think if there were any potential issues with the game not being released that he'd still be happily posting here?

Don't shoot the messenger

Wii version

It was definitely for this game.
It was in the coming soon section of the Xbox 360 titles and had the Xbox and PlayStation logos on it. The front was the same front that i'd seen before, with the Carlton and Collingwood players. The back was different. It had an AFL 2004 or 2005 graphic on it and listed features.

I often think that I came on here too early in the cycle, indeed it was an opportunistic event in an email from Ant that lead me to post here in the first place.

To maximise sales with the wider, general audience, I beleive you need to peak the hype and info about the game to coincide with the release, HES have a great track record with this and hold the pre-sale world record with their Rugby League franchise. You can't argue with that success.

As much as I'd like to update the website with regard to the AFL (it's easy to do - I did it the other day to point to here in the AFL FAQ :) ) and release more information, really, it's only the die hard supporters such as those on here that will care. The stuff we talk about now wil be long forgotten in a week or two let alone the month+ before release.

I have simpathy for those on here who just can't get enough footy and I am trying to feed that, but it's going to be a loooooong wait for some.

PS: The game is good and is certainly neither further delayed or cancelled. People at HES are calling it the best game they've ever made or been involved with, we have 20+ year veterans of the industry from the UK etc.. who are saying the same.

Majority of us appreciate all the information you've given Ross. :thumbsu: If it wasn't for the delay the cycle would not have been too early.

P.s Where did you point to the FAQ on your site?

It's been dealt with here. Basically it's poor work on EB Games' front. They haven't really been overly savvy here and have coupled the Wii versions features with the PS3/360/PC game. Which is wrong.

The Wii version will have ALL of those features on that advertisement, the PS3/360/PC will only have a few (from that sheet at least).

sympathy ;)

A long wait, how long will this be? I was hoping for advertising to start when the NAB Cup comes leading into the game.

What is this Pre-Sale World Record you speak of aswell?

Ah :thumbsu:
Sorry to waste your time.
I've been searching posts only by Ross to avoid 95% of the shit in the thread, that explains how I missed it.

Glenno23 works for EB Games he would be another one to search on.

I think we all need to appreciate the fact that for over 7 months, Ross has been very kind in posting on here offering tons of insight into the game as well as several pictures and asking questions and following up on requests. A lot of this has probably put him in a lot of potential jeopardy yet he does it to please us die hard AFL fans. Considering he just stated there is no further delay or cancellation of the game I think we all need to learn one word: Patience. The game will be here sooner rather than later.

Thanks Ross

Would've thought that a COD would've broken that by now. But that is ****en impressive for AU regardless (let alone worldwide).
Yeah same, but surely AFL could beat that if it ever gets announced.

Sorry Ross, I am so ****ing impatient

I did a quick search and found this:

http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/6326/Rugby_League_Pre-Order_Madness.html

The next iteration went on to sell 1169 pre-orders at one EB store, which I beleive is currently the world record (but I could be wrong!)....

This was for the original Rugby League on PS2

Would've thought that a COD would've broken that by now. But that is ****en impressive for AU regardless (let alone worldwide).

The thing is now, there are so many places that sell games, it would be hrad to beat that. even Black Ops (our most pre ordered title as a whole company) the biggest shop was over 900, but did not crack the 1000 mark

That record was when there may have been EB, a few independents and some of the majors who did **** all back then. No JB, GAME or gametraders

AFL will not break that recordm (although i'd like to!)

The biggest shop for RLL had about 250 orders IIRC

Probably a lesson to be learned here about managing expectations

Bigant have almost shot themselves in the foot.

Expectations are too high and the wait has dragged on too long

With expectations this high they will more often than not not be met ultimately leading to dissapointed consumers and failure

Exactly, the advertisments should say 'This game won't be very good, don't expect much yet' That will draw 50,000+ pre-orders

I was kind of meaning Worldwide when I said Black Ops (since that was the 'record'), since it's a beast in the US it probably did at least 5000 at one store over there.

most consumers are not on here :)

We will see about the expectations.... time will tell.
