Just a interesting one for you cricket lovers, reading over on the domestic cricket board some of the other states are getting surveys on the favourite names for the new Big Bash teams.

I haven’t heard anything from the local press or an email from the SACA (I am a member). But I 'modified' the URL from the Tasmanian survey and have found the South Australian survey.

http://surveymonkey.com/t20southaustralia

The following are the names listed:

Adelaide Force
Adelaide Fever
Adelaide Edge
Adelaide Mavericks
Adelaide Heat
Adelaide Strikers
Adelaide Angels
Adelaide Sparks
Adelaide Grit

In my opinion these are terrible names, how do you illustrate 'Grit' on a logo? ‘Maverick’ just makes me think of a bad Mel Gibson movie or a Ford 4wd? What the heck is ‘Edge’ meant to inspire?

I may be a little old fashioned but I liked it when animals were the first thing you looked at when choosing a team emblem.

Any good ideas for team names?

This best I could think of was ‘Adelaide Arachnids’, which would allow for a connection to the ‘Redbacks’ and could also allow for a mean logo. Perhaps ‘Adelaide Adders’?

Why is everyone surprised by American franchise names for an American inspired cricket on crack version of the game.

Last three AFL teams; Power, Suns, Giants. It couldn't get any more cringeworthy if they tried.

Now we have a hyper cricket comp with fireworks, flame throwers, play on music and dancing girls. It's crass bullshit appealing to the lowest ebb, hardly surprising the names are all crass too. It gives the same bunch of jackoffs who designed our new logo to stink up something else and further employment I guess.

Animals don't appeal to the tweenies and Gen Y'ers, so it will end up as Adelaide Crunch or something equally as stupid. As dumbarse Seppo names go, the Adelaide Bite have the best one, it at least has 2 meanings with its play on words that makes some sense to SA.

None of them are as bad as Melbourne Maxx tho', hahahahahahahahahaha

they are such crap names I could hardly control my desire to write abuse in the comments section

I had to say something; "If you are going to have crass American franchise names at least pick something that relates to SA. Adelaide Bite is a rather clever one.

Something like Adelaide Astro's in reference to Andy Thomas. Mavericks is terrible, we aren't and never have been a cowboy State. Why you would align yourself with unbranded cattle that was named after a US cattleman is beyond all rational thought.

And are we gonna be a horse maverick or a cow maverick, in which case why not Adelaide Bulls or Adelaide Stallions and skip the Seppo rubbish completely?

After every 6 can we have a hootenanny?"

What was wrong with 'Redbacks'?

The new teams aren't state association based but rather franchises majority owned by the state associations. The new names is a way of giving them separate identities.

I think it's pretty dumb myself when you consider the strength of many of the established brands (Bushrangers, Tigers), happy to make an exception for the Redbacks!

I can't see this competition lasting, particularly given the downturn of T20 ratings this summer.

Forget the Australian T20 series, cricket Australia are very much counter-productive as far as international t20 cricket goes.

The state based big bash comp is pulling in huge crowds and has been a huge winner for cricket in Australia.

Though I agree with your point that I dont see the problem with the state based teams in the t-20 comp and think this new league could be a big mistake. I think they should get rid of the one day state series and just extend the big bash tournament, put together NT and ACT sides and have an 8 team comp where you play each team twice so you play 14 games and then the finals.

The Adelaide la nina.

they call la nina the cycle after a drought, SACA's had a fair drought that 20/20 just broke!

lol. Have you considered a job in sports marketing? :)

CA have an issue with any animal names and have directed that they are not to be used. This is to stop Collingwood buying into a share, calling them Magpies and dressing them in black and white, CA don't want this a reality. So step one, no animals.
