The St Kilda Football Club is preparing to launch its new clash strip for the 2009 season.

The Saints have worked closely with official apparel partner ISC and the AFL on developing a clash jumper that meets the AFL’s requirement of being predominantly white while respecting the Club’s colours and tradition.

St Kilda CEO Archie Fraser said, “Our new clash strip takes us back to our traditional roots and I believe that it will resonate strongly with our supporters.

“We love the passion our fans have for the red white & black and have kept an eye and an ear on the debate about our clash strip throughout the last year and are very proud of what we have come up with.”

The new strip will be landing at the Official Club Shop soon and supporters are advised to keep their eye on www.saints.com.au and www.saintscentral.com.au for further launch information and pre-orders!

Anybody have any ideas as to what it will look like?

This was our first ever jumper, perhaps fatter candy stripes? Wouldn't think it would clash with the Pies like the thinner one did.

I'd like to see a return of the hot cross bun. :thumbsu:

Whatever it is, I'm expecting it will be a significant improvement on the current strip which is terrible.

Yeah i agree it misses all the boxes that need to be ticked apart from the fact it's white. It has no historical value and looks like crap, but worst of all IT HAS NO RED AND BLACK !!!

I asked Archie on his 'Ask Archie' forum on Saintscentral and he has stated the same thing to everyone posting a question on the topic and what i have gathered is that it is pretty much the complete opposite to what we have now.

IMO i would like a white version of the 'Hot Cross Bun design'.

Yep our current clash strip is a disgrace. Makes you wonder how jumpers like that ever come into being, surely it would have to make it through multiple review processess? And if so which idiots thought it was a good look?

Can't wait for the new one

It's far too similar to Essendon.

Not really that similar, apart from having black and red in it which all our jumpers have anyway.

I would still prefer something similar to our heritage jumpers from a few years ago with the thinner stripes. Although that might cause problems when playing Collingwood.

I prefer that design over the current white one. At least that one looks like a St.kilda jumper.:)

For some reason I thought those white strips were forced by the AFL? (Seeing every 2nd club had their own terrible version?)

I believe we are required to have a predominantly white strip but that was no excuse for the horrible design of the current clash strip. I don't know what they were going for with the faded club logo but it failed miserably.

According to a few of the posters on Saintsational the new strip will be similar to our home jumper but will contain a much wider white stripe in the middle as well as a white back. If that's the case I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Just a guess but legacy as the faded logo would dictate longevity and wear and tear over time where considering it wasn't really faded and still rather rich with colouration since it was the only colour on the strip could have also dictated richness in history or current status. The white was probably because it allowed such a design since you can;t see that having the same impact on a plain red or plain black jumper, or the same focus as a split coloured jumper. I actually think it wasn't all that horrible just that the meaning wasn't easily translated to the masses if there was one.

It was shit and I refused to buy it or wear it.

I wonder how much money the club lost on it. Should teach them a lesson.....

just bring back the heritage strip or hot cross bun jumper cause they will sell.....(like hot cross buns):thumbsu:

See I'd say average at best, shit is what I would call that yellow horror or the light blue sponsorship jumper.

As for ^ jumper, I don't mind it at all.

Thanks guys. I've had that design done up for a while, so when I saw this topic pop up, I thought I'd contribute. It's probably a bit late to submit to the club now, so hopefully what the club does come up with is better than the current clash. :thumbsu:

i know it doesn't reflect our heritage, but use this 80's Centrals jumper as a launching pad. replace the blue with black and all the logos and we're on a winner :thumbsu:

i think we should have worn that as a clash jumper. can someone who does all those jumper graphics give that a go.

What would you guys think of something like this for your new clash jumper?

i like it. its like how essendon just made their sash bigger(but that definetly looks better.
another idea for a white jumper could be something like this

(crap, i accidentally did the back the wrong way)

im not really a fan of white jumpers though so i think you should go back to the cross. seeing as the teams you (apparently) clash with wear dark colours such as black and navy there shouldnt be any problem with a red jumper. afterall, we get to wear one thats only about half red.
