Yeah it's an extra year.

A one year contract i believe.

Regardless of how you view his playing ability, there's no denying the bloke is one of the hardest workers at the club, love the Caff and i believe it's very much deserved, considering how he'd responded to an ACL.

And with this signing we have no Free Agents to take care of, great result for the club.

And in the process, given us another one to deal with next year.

Is he a Free Agent next year or just out of contract? Not sure how it works.

If he wants out next year i think he has to be traded, i'd believe his management would want a small 1 year contract now so he can prove his worth next year when he (hopefully) is healthy and thus increase his price.

I would think he would just be out of contract, having spurned the chance to move when a free agent (end of this year). Good to see the club doing this, I'm very happy with how they handle most things, really.

Really happy for him and glad the club appreciate the hard yards he has been putting in.

He is clearly the right kind of role model to have at a club especially with our young superstars on the comeback trail.

Great signing and can't wait to see Le Caff back playing again.

Happy to see Brent remain for next year as well. With the current shape of our list I think it's important to keep a good trainer like him around the club, as we should have done with Ball (IMO), even if he isn't getting regular games.

Nobody is gonna prise him off us in FA...

Does not get me Excited at all.

His spot in the Best 22 for next year is no Certainty with Adams and Greenwood on the List

He is a different player, now we have recruited these two he can go back to a hit up small forward or tagger if required.

Atleast he's a hrad worker and would be good around the club, though I hope he plays mainly VFL.

Glad the club is doing this for him so he can just concentrate on getting back out there as best as possible.

Caff offer plenty. He might not be automatic best 22, but you can't fault his effort or heart so I'm pleased to have him on the list and think he can offer value.

It seems to happen a bit these days that long term injured guys get an extension if they are coming out of contract. Probably a view that it gives them something positive to work toward in rehab rather than having a cloud over whether you'll be given a chance to get back properly.

He may not be the most talented and with another year out with yet another knee reco he will be pushing uphill to keep up with the tempo of the game. But he is one of the most hardworking and respected players within the playing group and brings that intangible to the team that can't be measured. Good on him..every club needs a Macaffer in their team

It's a 'no brainer' to sign caff up for an extra year.

Let's assume Thomas and Keeffe will get delisted (-2) ...

... and we'll probably lose around another three senior listed players whose contracts are expiring the end of this year (out of Young, Dwyer, Sinclair, Seedsman, Karnezis, Oxley) (-2 - 3 = -5)...

... but fair to assume that we will permanently promote Frost, however IIRC our list was 39 and he was taking spot 40 anyway (-2 -3 +0 = -5) ...

... and chances of promoting another rookie out of Gault, Manteit, Abbott, Cox or Armstrong? Let's assume one will get promoted (-2 -3 +0 +1 = -4)

That that means we'll be around 4 players down before we even consider Caff. So the decision to offer Caff an extension comes down to a choice between ...

(A) Hang onto a 27 year old Premiership player, clubman, one of the best taggers of the competition, in an otherwise young team ... Or:

(B) Take an (approx) fifth round draft pick.

As I said, no brainer.

Just doing him a good Favour but I see him Struggling to get into the Best 22 next year.

He is good Defensively but poor Offensively.

Crip has already gone past him as he is good running both ways

Good move to keep him.
At best he is an important part of our midfield. (I know plenty of others disagree, but I think the option to have a tagger like Caff is great option to have)
But even if he doesn't get back to his best, or (just as likely) we decide against using a tagger, I think Caff is still a good depth player who can come in and out of the 22 as needed, either in a midfield or a mid-sized forward position.
