Hi Coasters,

I have been lurking for most of this season and after last night's match and seeing the mood around this place, I figured I should start an account. I know we are out of the top 4, but I really believe we still have a good shot at this and wanted to share some thought;

1) Nic Nat coming back: Lately we have had issues get clearances and being able to create space. If Nic Nat is at 80% his presence and ability to win hit outs to advantage could solve this problem.
2) An easier First final: If we had beaten the Hawks and finished 3rd, we would have had to travel and play a red hot Brisbane. Playing Essendon at home gives us a chance to sort through our issues and iron out kinks
3) Thursday night elimination final: We haven't traveled since round 22. A home elimination final, means by time the SF rolls around, it would have been 4 weeks since having to travel, and at least 8 days since our previous match. If we win the SF, hopefully we play Sat night PF for another 8 day break.
4) We are scheduled to play loser of Geelong and Collingwood QF in the SF. The match will be at the G. We have the wood of C'Wood and I back us in against Geelong anywhere except Goomba.
5) We didn't just shoot ourselves in the foot, we also shot Richmond too. They now need to travel to Brisbane, and if they lose, the will potentially play the Bulldogs. Two tough finals.

I know it hurts right now, but I actually believe we can do this. Our best is the best. If we have been complacent this year, hopefully the last two week have been the wake up call we needed.

Welcome and thanks for the optimism. I took last night pretty badly and have been a bit pessimistic on here. You raise some things to be positive about. My main concern is that so much has to go right for us to even make a prelim, but even if we did I just cant see how we would have enough left in the tank to win.

It's ok. It's natural to feel dejected. I think what might save us is the week off between R23 and EF, and having a Thursday EF. I think a prelim is the very least we should be hoping for. Throw in the fact that Richmond now needs to travel to Brisbane there are reasons to still believe!

The only chance I see for us progressing to the GF is for Brisbane to beat Richmond in the QF. Assuming we actually play more than 30 minutes of football, that will give us Essendon, Gee/Coll @ the MCG, Brisbane and then likely Richmond in the GF. If Richmond win we need to beat them at the G to make the GF, and if we happen to do that I don't care who we play in the GF, a 40+ point thumping is in our future.

I was feeling a bit dejected after this last round...

But, I've come around. Whats done is done, and I still have faith we can beat any team on any ground. Play with desire and we'll be fine.

Poor Nic Nat, bloke is going to have the hopes and expectations of the entire state on his shoulders. Pretty unfair when he’s played bugger all footy for 12 months.
