I loved the pouncing tiger one, through, the sash. This one is ok

It actually is looking at you. Bit like the MOna Lisa. In fact I expect the original lithograph to hang in the Louvre from September

Can you refresh my memory on the 80's leaping Tiger, Tigerdrive?;)

Intially i was enraged that they would consider a new design, however the case is strong that our current logo has been linked to one of the darkest periods of this iconic club. A new era beckons and perhaps it would be symbolic to go with a NEW tough breed of TIGER:thumbsu:

Do you know how painfull it is to get rid of a tattoo? Mind you there isnt as much black in this one.:)

Interesting. I believe the Tiger in this design was originally looking straight until he copped a "don't argue" from you know who.
Is it just me, but does the supposed shield like background look like a map of Tasmania?

Why does the tiger have a black 'n white bib?

We are YELLOW and BLACK.

So no.

It wouldn't work as well with two solid colours.
The relief is good.

You've got yourselves a good logo in times where we're all trying to be avant-garde, without vindication for wanting to be so.

You'll all grow to love this one. It's quite powerful.

Good Spot ToO

Cheers. Body detail and pose are remarkably similar.
Probably changed it enough not to have copyright issues but I'd investigate it before investing huge coin so there's no legal issues with it. Don't want that biting you on the arse.

In saying that I quite like it. (but then I like the beer logo too).

Love it. I can see when the name gets added to it, it will be really exceptional.

Strong yet modern. Represents the new Richmond.

As much as I loved the look of the old logo, it's dated. It represents another era of failure.

We are moving forward. Strong and bold, but modern. This represents the new Richmond! Love it.

the more I see it the more I dislike it's cartoony style.

I like the realism that the current logo has. If we had to change the logo I would prefer that we kept that style.

brb getting a new logo every time we start to claw back up the ladder

I don't see Collingwood's new logo nor Carlton's new cartoony *** logo

**** this logo is good. When it has writing it will grow and become the best in the league.

Those who want the 1980's onee back...... come on guys..... it's shocking. It looks so tacky and old.

Sh@t. I just wrote a huge response to this thread that didn't post. It had sales figures for guernseys and internal dialogue from other clubs and everything. *sigh*

In short -

Switches to new logos and strips in the AFL have been universally deemed as failures, both from a financial and a marketing perspective. WCE, Fremantle, Adelaide, and more recently North, Brisbane and Melbourne have all suffered from this.

Switches to a more traditional, heritage strip and logo on the other hand has resulted in enormous benefits for those clubs willing to go in that direction. Here, I would point to the decision of a number of clubs who went the modern direction (WCE, Freo, Adelaide, Port) and subsequently decided to switch back as evidence of this, although I had much more concrete data in my first post which I can't be bothered rehashing.

It's also worth noting that 'heritage' guernseys are consistently the most popular selling items in the AFL, and often have significant resale value (particularly when signed).

Going backwards in terms of design is easily the more financially prudent and easy-to-market option. The trend towards a more modern logo and strip is an unfortunate byproduct of the powers-that-be's obessesion with the Americanisation of our game, despite the fact that any sports marketer worth their salt is fully aware that they've even abandoned this trend over there (see Golden State, Cleveland, the Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, etc. etc.).

I really like the Tiger head but it doesn't seem to sit on the body correctly.

Someone on PRE compared it with a bobble head. I see that too though I guess they'll want to use the head as a separate icon which in itself is a good idea. Just wish it matched a little more with the body. Brisbane's lion on their jumper has the same issues.

Edit. In my previous post I pointed out that there were financial benefits to the heritage look but failed to list them.

They are:

Enormously popular sales of guernseys across demongraphics that aren't accessible to more modern designs.

Marketability of new designs and intangible value from positive media vibe.

There are figures to back these up taken from the examples I listed, but again, CBF the 2nd time around. This posting functionality is irritating.

Here's my version of it... lowered the tiger head a little and added the RFC.

And here's the original

In the edited one, it looks a little more fiercer. More black in it, with less white under the ears...
