I have heard from a reliable source that there is a new model ps3 out in sept - was not given any other info - anyone know anything of it???????

sorry in advance if this has come up already.

your source is probably referring to the ps3 slim.

there have been rumours but no date has been confirmed that i'm aware of.

i'm not sure that ps2 is officially "finished" since from all those bloody graphs midori puts up it seems to still sell a shiteload of systems....

but i've heard the next ps3 system update is supposed to be pretty big...with rumours that it will enable backwards compatibility with ps2 games (which should've been worked on alot earlier) but still...that is no guarentee.

if it's not a ps3 slim i have no idea.

the ps2 is finished because it cannot be ordered at store level now and also the existing model ps3 is no longer avaible as well.

I will try and find out more

This is the reason why Camo. The tech has always been there it's not new.

But the continued solid sales of the PS2 have helped with the PS3's losses with each console sold. So the viability of cancelling out the need for a PS2 isn't strong enough just yet.

If what is being rumoured to be happening towards the end of the year (GT5, PS3 price drop and/or PS3 slim) then the PS3 will no doubt start to gain sales and hold it's own better than it is now and the PS2 will be able to be Officially dropped worldwide.

this is the 1st picture of the slim which showed up a few months ago

In Australia and Japan, the 80GB PS3 is reportedly being phased out, with Sony not shipping any more to retailers.

This is believed to be in preparation for either the announcement of the PS3 slim or a PS3 price drop.

EDIT: Didn't see Sacka's post which says exactly the same.

RUMOUR: 80GB PS3 PHASED OUT IN AUSTRALIA
We heard earlier today that the 80GB PS3 is being discontinued in Japan. It looks like the same thing is happening in Australia, too.

Several sources we have spoken to recently claim that stock levels of the 80GB PS3 console around the country have hit rock bottom. That is, Sony isn’t supplying new shipments of the 80GB PS3 console, leaving retail to sell what they currently have on the shelf.

Ok, thats a shame, not that I use it much.
Same, I still don't understand the big deal about Backwards Compatibility. You buy a PS3 to play PS3 games and now there is EASILY enough games (and at a cheap enough price) to keep you busy so as not to really need PS2 games.

Granted though I have bought about the same amount of PS2 games in the last year than I did in probably 4 or 5 years with my actual PS2 (As I did 'pirate' 90% of my PS2 games when I owned my PS2:o).

The backwards compatibility does come in handy though if you want a back story on an old-gen game. God of War 1 & 2 has helped massively to understand several things that will be in God of War 3 and even what has been shown in the trailers so far as well.

Also thinking of getting Red Dead Revolver to get up to date with that. Same with Max Payne 2 just to play it again and remember the story. Almost bought Just Cause the other day too in preparation for the upcoming Just Cause 2 but after reviews stated that it is really buggy and a bit boring (As in massive map, nothing to do) I decided against it.

Could've shut your hole and not re-posted the exact same link that was posted earlier.

Untill Sony comfirm the slim its all speculation but it looks more than likely imo. But you would of thought Sony would of anounced it before now.

This is true

We sold out 2 weeks back and have been told we won't be getting anymore until after Sony have their press conference

It's gonna announce 1 of 2 things:

a) price drop

or

b) new model

Wait till the 18th and all will be revealed...

The only thing will be how long will it be until we see the benefits. Would we be getting the new console or price drop within a week or two or would it take another couple of months. (By we I mean Australia too, not just the general consumer)

Depends how long you're willing to wait Juddy.
