We have all seen the AFL proposed new rules for the coming years, they include the rotations, a ball hitting the post and going in being counted as a goal, the 9 point "Super Goal" and some other minor tweaks.

The only rule bought in i like is the deliberate rushed rule because it stops cheating and makes sense.

The rest of these are crap and i wish they would leave the game alone but if they want to create more excitment and change the rules i have come up with something that should replace the 9 point goal in the pre season and maybe be considered in the home and away season only.

I have actually pattened this idea so its mine! hands off! hahahahaha.

My Idea is that in each game, each side is given a 3 minute period where a goal kicked is worth 2, the two sides must nominate this time period before the bounce eg: between 10th and 13th minute mark of 4th quarter.

This would create more intigue to some games especially for tight games and if some teams were down say 6 goals and score in that period then all of a sudden its back to a 4 goal game and its game on, or it could stretch a lead from 2 goals to 4 goals with 1 kick.

It is a 3 minute period in a whole game, wont compromise the game as much as the other rules and would maybe revive some games that we see so often that seem dead and buried and downright boring until this period applies, the desperation in the time frame for the attacking side and defensive side would go up a notch and would enhace our game IMO.

Like i said im happy to leave the game alone but if the AFL wants to bring in new rules at least bring in exciting and innovating ones that dont change the fundamentals of our great game which i think i have proposed.

Thoughts?

I think what you'd see happen would be a huge increase in flooding for the nominated periods of the game as teams do anything possible to prevent a goal being kicked in that time frame.

It'd never happen, but it's an interesting thought nonetheless.
I always joked that they should bring in a NAB cup rule where if you are like 30+ metres out and you hit the post you should get like 20 points. It'd be awesome to see if blokes took up the challenge and backed themselves to actually try and hit it :P

I'd prefer an 'NBA JAM' esque style of play, where if you string 3 goals back to back together, you go 'on fire' and scores are then doubled until the opposition scores a goal. ;)

The football also is set alight during these sequences.

I think the KISS rule applies here. It's hard enough for people new to the game to keep track of all the crazy rules already without introducing multiball.

Strangely enough I like the 9 pointer though. Imagine Didaks torp if it was worth 3 extra points, the value of players with skills like that would go through the roof.

Haha yep actually though about the flooding aspect of it today, knew that would be brought up, on the ball mate!
But a lot of sides flood and still get scored against heavily, It is only a 3 minute period so it wouldnt detract from the spectacle of the game and create a bigger buzz in all games.

I've been saying for years, NO RULE CHANGES FOR 2 YEARS, and they always change the rules.

Our game is sensational to watch as it is, why do we have to keep changing the rules.

Look at the Cats/Saints game, football at it's best, name a rule change that would have made that a better match?

I don't like that rule at all. It reminds me of something they'd bring in in Cricket. A rule change for the sake of it.
Rule change for the sake of it? exactly what the AFL are trying to do now thats my point, im putting it out there that my rule is better than theirs thats all.

Yeah I agree, the way we move the ball anyway our forward line is usually always flooded anyway. Probably wouldn't make a difference to us, we are pretty decent as just scrapping the ball forward and scoring goals unconventionally.

It'd be a funny period to watch though, blokes would just be going gun-ho to push the ball forward and scrape a goal in, it'd make for an exciting couple of minutes.

Certainly cricket inspired as well Quicky, I'm sure Axl got the idea from the power plays in one dayers.

Haha, love it. My mates still quote that all the time when we are out on the piss, someone's tuning a girl and one of us will give it the "he's heating up!" and then everyone erupts with the "he's on fire" when he leans in for the kiss :thumbsu:

The AFL are already plenty nuts, lets not give them any more ideas :D

Maybe we should bring in a BASEketball style psycheout:

"Your Sisters going out with... Squeak"!!!

Didnt get it from the cicket Power Play, i hate cricket one dayers and 20 20, Test matches are what matters.

My idea is mine just like my soccer idea for an alternative to extra time, scrap the offside for the 2nd half of extra time, no offside at all for 15 mins would provide for an awesome game to avoid penalty shootouts.

Ah fair enough, well it's very similar to power plays. They nominate 5 over periods where the majority of the field must come up inside the inner circle allowing the batting team to score easier (just incase you didn't know, but I'm assuming you probably do if you still follow test cricket).

Reminds me of futurama when frys learning the new and
improved blurnsball. He starts getting
it and then... Megaball! Megaball! MEGABALL!

A thousand balls come out the batter hits him, he then rides a hover bike over the bases, each one exploding as he does this.

What just happened?

No changes for a change

Multiball?

The multiball is a brilliant concept. :thumbsu:
