Eskimo Joe's, my god please dont win, its (almost) as bad as west coasts.

Song 2 has potential, lyrics just are a bit lame.

In my head the Eskimo Joe song sounds good sung in this style. I can imagine a full subi oval singing it too. I don't get the same feeling from the Rosco Elliot song.

Having said that, my gut feeling is that either the original or the reworked will get up. It's hard to effect change and those who are opposed to the change will undoubtedly vote pref 1 & 2 to those songs making it very difficult to change the song. The voting system is definitely skewed towards retaining the current song.

Anyone know what the winning song has to achieve vote wise? Is it just a matter of what song gets the most votes win? Will be very hard to beat the original just because the likes of dockerland will run a campaign where nothing ever changes.

The members poll carries an inherent bias.

Those that favour the original song are likely to split (to some extent at least) their votes across Songs 3 and 4.

A better way to structure a poll such as this would have been to have two stages of voting

Stage 1: Do you want a new song?
Stage 2 (if necessary): Which new song would you like?

This is a clever strategy (and is the same reason we are not a Republic). Also very clever to offer two "new" songs (one of which is far superior to the other).

I expect the result will be something like:

Eskimo Joe: 40%
Other new song: 5%
Old versions: 55% between them, but neither more than 40%

Before I heard them, my presumption was that I would vote for a reworked version of the current song.

Pleasantly suprised I dont mind the new offerings... prefer Eskimo Joe's at this stage but will give them a few more listens before I vote here.

Eskimo Joe song has way too big a musical interlude. They would sing a verse then stop for 30 seconds. Needs to be rearranged. But it's growing on me.

As we all know, most people don't like change. It's going to be hard for a new song to win. I like how the club has split the originalists by providing them with 2 options.

The military sounding one also would need to be re-arranged but i don't find it as catching as the Eskimo Joe Song. Though the poor guy writing it claims a selling point as the 'Freo' chant which is all through the Eskimo Joe Version. Tough angle to try to sell it from.
