I'm a bit drunk and missing the BF cut and thrust after taking the tin lids on hols, and nostalgia gets the better of me now that I think of Cap'n Kirk being beamed up into the somthinsphere, and on the long drive back from Victoria I mused on who would be our next glorious (co) leader...

For some time I've had Kieran Jack in my bosem, and would like him to be our next leader. He's young, I know, but imagine giving it to a guy who seems hungrier than (insert your own own politically incorrect phrase here)...

My (lame) prediction is he will be a Swan for life, and I want him to be a captain and leader for years to come...

Bird and Hannebery have been my preferences for some time. They're very tough and full of class, and show leadership beyond their limited experience.

Malceski would be another good choice. He seems to have intelligence, in more than just the sense of a good footy brain, and also seems a natural leader.

... as long as it aint McVeigh.

Please tell me you didn't start the drinking before completing that long drive back ...

Only V drinks, my road drink!

p.s. Bird is definitely up there too for me. Such a great player, and will really blossom in the years to come. Hanners too, but his time is in about 4 years i reckon...

After Kirky, Goodesy and the Boltons are no longer around, i hope it is Craig Bird. He will take a permanent role in the midfield next year with Kirky retiring and he will show how good he is. Sucks that he had his injury at the beginning of the year as from all reports he was just about our best of the preseason and ready for an explosion of a year.

I'd have to go with Bird, Jack and Hannebery as the most likely of the young 'uns, but from left field somewhat, i'd throw in Nick Smith. He has all the makings of a very good player and looks like Kizza 2.0 in many ways, but i like the way he conducts himself on the field. Probably will not make it to captain, but a leadership role i can see for him.

I think next year it would be a bit rude not to give Craig or Goodesy the nod :thumbsd: But when they've gone I'd love to see Keiren Jack as captain of the Swans. Aside from being a tough nut, he is very personable and articulate too :thumbsu:

i think it will eventually be kizza, but i see o'keefe and eski in the vice/co-captain after kirk and bolts

I would like to see Jude rewarded for his commitment and on field leadership even if it's only for a couple of years. We will then have a plethera of blokes to chose from.Maybe ,at this stage,I will go for Jack because he does do the inspirational thing from time to time.

Unless Horse pulls a swifty, the sad reality is McSmug will probably get it.

JBolts is too old & there is no one else 25yrs> who fits the bill.

I don't get the love for Bird.

Jack would make a great political choice, but I don't think he is ready.

Hannebery would be an awesome choice down the track. Anyone catch his new SwansTV segment?

He's a man trapped in a child's body. He needs some polish, but he's got "presence" & an amazing amount of maturity for someone who in reality is just a kid. I hope his shoulders don't hold him back.

Post Roos & Kirk, I hope the co-captain thing is abolished and the leadership group revamped & shrunk.

Real leaders don't need a hall monitors badge to do their job.

Haha AG would you like a spoon for your shit-stirring?

If we're to be realistic, Barlow probably won't be ready to take on the captaincy for another year or two so I agree with AG. McVeigh until then.

He is a medical miracle. That overgrown heart has been studied and observed by many learned doctors and scientists for years, but nobody knows just how one man could have so much courage and heart.

Not if we trade in Jason Laycock before then.

Being serious, I'd just give it Goodes for the rest of his career (or 2/3 years) and then give it to one of the younger brigade afterwards. Goodes has improved his slightly petulant attitude this season and off the field is never an issue for him.

if goodes takes it for 2-3 years. kizza will be in the 24-25yrs age bracket which is perfect!

Disagree, Goodes still brings his personal baggage to the field.

I feel he will offer more value to the team & himself if he's allowed to focus on his own game for the rest of his career.

As a senior player, he can still offer leadership and an example for the kids...Don't worry the kids know who their daddy is*

We're about to enter a new era, it's an opportunity for a clean slate.

It's time for some new blood to awaken.

You are the magic man .

I triple dare you to send this pic to him on Facebook :p

* For those who understand Grimlock speak, Goodes=Ultra Magnus

The only people who should get a say on who the captain is, are the playing group. Whoever is named captain should be someone that the whole playing group feels comfortable being in the leadership role. We as fans can tend to see who is inspirational on the field. But the captain needs to be inspirational off the field as well - which is something we don't see as much of.

However to speculate as a fan... I would love to see it go to Jude Bolton, who cares if he only has a couple of years playing left - he's the guy after Kirky who totally epitomises the Bloods spirit. He always fights to the end, no matter what the rest of the team might be doing. I'm sure the young guys really look up to him a lot.

Malceski would be another good one... From what we've heard I don't think anyone else trained as hard and as determined as he did in the pre-season... and look how it has paid off. I think being the guy whose career was on the line, who then worked his guts out to get his form back, and became one of the best on field. That's inspirational too.

Tadgh wouldn't be a bad choice either, he's so well liked by everyone in the club and could bring a lot to the table. Although, he might need an interpreter available whenever new kids come to the club, to understand his thich accent :D

Jude/ROK/Mal
then...
KJ/Bird
then...
Hanners/Rohan
then...
Mitchell
then...
McVeigh(Will be playing until he is 40 because doctors find out he has a heart irregularity where one man has an enormus amount of heart and courage)

Thats us set for 15 years.
