This topic's been done to death.

Bowden, when hell freezes over! No offence he just doesn't have what I want in someone who is going to wear the number 17.

Brown, possibly.

Newman, maybe, after KJ gives it away.

Hyde, he's my dark horse, I like his style and he's not afraid to put his body on the line. A definite quality needed to wear 17.

I think some of you seriously underrate KJ, always leads by example, gets the most difficult task every game of shutting down an opposition gun while still trying to be productive himself, not many players in the AFL would have what it takes to be given this type of job.

I'd like to see TW let KJ off his leash this year, let Jackson tag.

Hyde = Vandenburg.

A captain who is no guarantee of winning a spot in the 22 each week.

That would simply be embarrassing, unless as captain we were forced in to playing him, which he doesn't deserve!

Think Chris Newman would be a good choice, with Will Thursfield as the vice-captain (defeinite leadership material!)

Johnson=Vandenburg

Hyde has alot more class about him although he needs to lift his fitness

FWIW, I think Johnson (barring injury or total form drop off) will captain until the end of 2009. At that point I believe it will come down to a choice between Foley, Polak, Pettifer, Newman or Coughlan. Obviously it will depend on form and development between now and then but my gut feeling says Foley.

Bowden, Brown, Richo, Tivendale are all as old as, or older than Johnson.

Simmonds, Tuck and Schulz don't have the captain type attributes we will be needing in a leader by that stage.

There are a number of potential candidates among the younger kids but none will be ready in the next 2 seasons.

As if Hyde is classier than Johnson.
Even the most one eyed Johnson haters, other than the three on BF would agree.

Johnson has no class. He lacks skill, brain and speed. Hyde has a much better kick and great evasive skills so that makes him more classy. But Hyde needs to work on the fitness side of his game :cool:

:)IT is no mistake that Johnson has tasted premiership success (twice), won a best and fairest and played as many games as he has.

Guys such as Greg Madigan, Scott Howell, Aaron Keating and our own Daryl Freame - despite their being a need to have some semblance of ability to make it on to an AFL list - could all be considered lucky to have played in flag teams. Very lucky!

Johnson, not so! He was a valuable contributor and still is.

I am not saying he is brilliant MadTiger, but servicable enough and way ahead of many on our list.

He is far from the hack back flanker in D grade amateurs that you make him out to be!
