Lets face the facts that Neale won't get another contract - what if we had Mark Williams as our next coach.

Not the stumpy gentleman from Alberton, nor the free kick full forward from Hawthorn, but the Sandy coach. His VFL record is pretty damn good, and he has a decent knowledge of all the players in the AFL counterpart.

Would you give him the job over an untried media personality?

Without question.

Would like to see who else (real coaches) are out there before jumping on the Williams bandwagon though. He's a hell of a coach for the Zebs, but who knows if it'd translate into AFL success.

He must be doing something right with three consecutive flags (And I'm not sure if he coached them to the flag in 2000 but I think he did).
Worth a try. He wouldn't demand a huge contract unlike some other candidates and already knows the playing group.
I'd be for it.

I'd feel it would be undermining ND a bit to put williams in, and with the list he's got at Sandy i dont think it would be hard to win the flag, I'd be looking elsewhere.

On this matter would people want Longmire to coach us if it meant we played like Sydney do, after watching last night I'm not so sure I'd want my team to play like that, it would be a long season.

I don't think that Williams would be king in one season, we would have to rebuild.

However look what Neil Craig did with Adelaide.

Would undermining daniher matter if we sacked him anyway?

To be perfectly honest, I think that the Sydney gamestyle would suit us better than the run-and-carry style we currently employ (or try to). That style requires a superstar midfield which we don't have. Sydney's game is based around teamwork and discipline, being accountable and putting on a contest at all costs. It is a blue collar gameplan that would suit our blue collar team imo.

I reckon Sydney play the way they do purely due to personnel. If Roosy had a diiferent player group he would do things differently in my opinion. What makes us think that Longmire is purely a Roos clone? He played under Pagan and his philosophy is different to Roos. Roos has even stated they play the way they do because he feels they would not be competitive any other way. Personally I dont care how we play as long as we win! Sure an attractive brand is better but attractive losses dont do much for me. I reckon it boils down to the side we're putting out there isn't real flash.

I partly agree with you there Jamahl but I think that Roos philosophies start with defence. He may be more attacking with a team like West Coast but defence would still be a major emphasis.
Longmire would obviously take some influence from his time under Roos, in the same way that he would take the bits he liked about Pagan's teachings. He would be his own man.

Williams has an excellent track record. It would be interesting to see how he would go at AFL level. There doesn't seem to be too many coaches in the AFL who have come from state leagues. All seem to now come from assistant roles with AFL clubs.
