Opinion Next EFC Captain

I had a discussion the other day about who could become our next captain, would be interesting to see others thoughts.

It will be Watson for too long to be able to guess... But for the fun of it, in 5 years Carlisle.

Yeah they are the two I came up with, taking age into account. I guess Carlisle would also be a possible candidate.

Dustin Fletcher, will probably be in his prime by the time Jobe relinquishes the captaincy.

Said this elsewhere, but Zaka doesn't strike me as a future captain. Hurley maybe, Heppell's demeanour in front of a camera actually reminds me of a young Jobe.

I was thinking because of the way Heppel acts in front of the camera, that he probably isn't the captain type. But he is still very young and could grow into the captain type.

Hopefully a young teenager we haven't recruited yet. Of the current lot, Hurley and Heppell stand out but I really like the calm assured nature of Carlisle. There's just something about him that I like in his character.

It's honestly just a gut feeling, really.

Perhaps more accurately, if it came down to a choice between Heppell and Zaka, I'd see Heppell as being more likely, as IMO he speaks better and in general, has that intangible quality that just screams 'leader'. I'm not sure if Zaka has that to the same degree.

I could also see any of Carlisle, Hurley or even (and this is probably a little left-field) Myers being considered.

TBH I would be disappointed if Myers became captain. It's not that I don't rate him - I actually really like him as part of the team and love watching him play, but I just don't think he's a leader. He's more of a do-er and a loyal soldier. You need people who have the ability to both really understand the game and be able to get the message across to their teammates through action and words. I just don't see Myers as the sort of guy who would talk enough?

Heppell could well be another good choice.

I would say Hepp because he has a sensational attitude and a head on his shoulders. However I was shocked to learn this last year so I guess I don't know any more:

Zakka is quite well spoken. He would be my guess.

I think the next most well-spoken young individual at the club after Heppell is... and I am preparing to be howled down... Jake Melksham. If he maintains his game and gets his confidence up, he will be leadership group soon, watch this space.
