hi guys heard a bit of goss from a bomber suporter at work today that lloyd wouldnt mind finishing up at the lions one day. cannot see it myself but it raises the question how do you think will fill the role when the great lynch hangs them up ????

p.s i hope we can get another year out of him at least ,hes a champ !!

thoughts

i think you are right mav of our boys leppa seems the choice and there isnt many full forwards kicking around you would go out and trade for but if lloyd was available he would be welcome but like you carnt see him leaving the dons

Yeah I reckon Leppa would go ok Irish.

Braddy still frustrating...has the ability to hold down full forward...just not sure about the consistency.

Damn AFL 50km rule....that Riewoldt bloke would be pretty handy at Full Forward.

Might be a bit out of left field, but I'd like to see Charman given a go at FF.

If Keating can get his fitness right, maybe this would not be so far fetched?

I happen to agree with Charman. Keating is a possibility. However I reckon we trade Keating and Bradshaw for S Power next year. Bulldogs will go for that one.

Just imagine the Bulldogs spine.

FB: Bassett
CHB: Grant
C: West
CHF: Bradshaw
FF: Keating

However, they probably wont' be able to afford both.

But yeah Charman FF is not a bad idea Lex. Perhaps McLaren?

Both Charman and McLaren are potentially key position players.

Both are young, robust and mobile, especially Charman who has shown he can take a solid contested mark.

I wasn't actually thinking along the lines of trading Keating but more along the lines of having Keating and McDonald in tandem in the ruck again with Charman as an option at FF off the interchange (under the tutelage of Lynch)

That way, if either Crackers or Beau went down with injury, we would have a ready made ruck back up in Charman.

If they started developing Charman as a FF, we could have our cake and eat it so to speak.

Lych as FF for another year or two, Charman "in training" and McDonald and Keating as the designated ruckmen.

Might not be a bad idea. If only Keating and McDonald stayed injury free.

However, we have to look at trading one of our talls and another player for S Power. If S Power turns out as good as his brother, we will be set.

Leppa started his career as a forward and should get first shot at because Bradshaw is not a number 1 forward (if he survives to see next season at brisbane).

I said last year that Bradshaw would not make it past 2003 in Lions colours. The way he is going, he won't. We have plenty of possibilities without him.

Its a shame Darren Bradshaw was delisted.

It's amazing that a guy from Wodonga playing in SA in his first year could represent SA in a State of Origin game against WA on the weekend. The big fella played pretty well too.

I suspect that by the time Lynch retires Voss will be a full-time forward almost.

I wouldn't be the only one to say that Lloyd would fit in nicely when Lynch retires though. Voss and Lloyd are different full-forwards too so they would complement eachother nicely:D

id still keep daniel bradshaw - he is a good player @ FF if he finds consistancy & he could make a good backman if leppa would go in the foward line! btw how about copeland?

as for matty lloyd - it would be fantastic to get him but somehow I doubt it!

then that average footballer who wears number 3 takes over at full forward after that

:D

hope we dont have to think about it till 2004 - lynchy has 5,5 & 8 goals in the last 3 weeks & if he keeps going like that why would you want him to retire

ps - if there is any1 there who would be so kind as to make me a better acvtar then the 1 I got (still with lynchy in it) - thanx in advance

:o

There are so many things to agree with on this post.
The Ruckman theory has great appeal. I would think that Keating would be the best option in the FF role. Charman has worked well with McDonald and Mclaren has been a reasonable deputy. They are all younger and logically should be able to cover more ground for longer. Keating on the other hand is bulkier and stronger and as he ages can reserve his strength for the contest and leading in the FF role. Him rucking inside 50 would allow our tall to fall back as an extra defender.

Leppa is another good option, although my least preferred, and if this was the case then I can see Bradshaw filling the CHB role if he was to continue with the club. At the moment, I think Leppa is trying to do too much and should get back to basics. I feel he can rule the CHB position for a few yet. If he had to be FF though he would do the job admirably and is probably, the best kick out of the contenders.

Then there is Voss. This guy can do anything and usually better than most. If he wants to play FF then end of story. No more discussion he gets the job. I see how the move forward would be a sensible decision to extend what is already a stellar career. However I would of thought he would play in a non-key position so he could still play his own game and move around a bit when he so desired. There is no rule you have to be a FF to win a Coleman. This in tandem with Keating at FF would be wicked.

Lynch staying yet one more year is the best option I like. Whether the old horse wants to go through it all again is the thing. A decision he probably has not even made himself yet. I see he is rocketing up the goal-kicking list. I would love to bet on him finishing second again. Who knows if Essendon’s woes get worse and with Melbourne’s form it could still be his year.
