How much was GP last year btw?

From memory, it was around $230ish (Australian) last season. It gets cheaper as the season goes on, so if you don't give a shit about the pre-season and if your team has a few early season games on ESPN or 7mate you can save a few bucks.

Short answer is "No", for now. The TV holdback rights on certain programs (usually set at 45 days once the program has aired on the network) are baked into the contracts.

I get the idea behind this.

But I believe we (overseas viewers) get a different version of Gamepass than US viewers don't we? So it seems strange that these "holdback" rights still apply to us when there was/is no legal way to view those shows in Australia.

I didn't use GP last year as I wouldn't have needed the whole season.

But besides the unreliability of the more dubious ways of streaming I almost preferred them to GP because I could have multiple games on the 1 screen open in more browsers than I could in GP because GP split screening isn't very good.

With the international rights of GamePass being chopped up does that mean I lose the ability for global roaming on the one subscription?

Last season I used the single Australian subscription to watch games in Australia and across Asia...will this remain the case?

Yes and No. It depends on where you go and how you connect. The product is accessible in the region you purchase it in. The current split for "International" is Europe, Rest of World, and Canada. Each region will have it's own product that is accessible within that area. You can always VPN to your home country if need be.

Note: this was always the case if you travelled to the US for instance and was always in the product T&C's. It's just that previously we only had the one operator for all of non-US markets so a geographic restriction wasn't enforced.

ie You gonna get gouged, bring out your VPNs.

Are you saying I won't be able to get the link to the stream once a game starts anymore? :drunk:

Nothing should change from a streaming standpoint. Especially in the Australian market. The only change this year from an Aussie standpoint is that the service provider is moving GamePass to their new technology platform which should offer some streaming performance improvements and hopefully some additional functionality.

In a broader sense there is a real push from our leadership to remove as many restrictions as we can from products. We understand fans want to be able to view NFL wherever and whenever they want so we are trying to develop experiences to do so. The legacy rights contracts we have in place were largely written several years ago before the likes of Netflix came long and these have these strange protections that prohibit us from showing stuff online that don't make a whole lot of sense in the current digital climate. The sports world is playing catchup.

I assumed part of that new functionality would have included stopping non-paying bums like myself just hitting the right HTTP address and watching for free.

I can't even log on with my iPad at the moment, just gives a pop up message saying the new app is coming....since current subsciption runs out end of July 2017 I want a refund.

I'm missing out on all those replays of Chip Kelly stella 49er moments

That's interesting. The NBA used to use the same service provider we use for Gamepass International but switched last season which I suspect has a lot to do with any dropoff in quality.

Was just little things this year vs last. Eg: games sometimes taking a long time to be available on Apple TV (whereas mobile app versions had them), road team announcers not available etc. Little things. Was a boring season anyway so didn't use it as much.

Hope Gamepass maintains it's quality.

PS: no league handled a change of provider as badly as the NHL when they switched to MLB.TV... absolute shit show for a long time and they did it mid season!

As a fan myself who is a cable-cutter and watch almost all of my sports online, I'm no fan of the MLBAM platform. It's used by a number of different entities and its amongst the worst of the providers out there from a stability standpoint. Some of our properties have been on their platform before (Twitter TNF) and we would always white-knuckle through those games. Note: TNF is Amazon next season and I'll be interested to see how it goes.

Latest news I have from the provider is that the new iPad app has been built but they're waiting on Apple to release it. I don't have an ETA right now but it should be in the next day or two based on the info I have. It may not be what you're looking for but you can still watch games on browser in the interim.

Apple are pretty quick to approve or reject an app these days, within 24hrs.

Yep, it was just effing atrocious for a long time. And for many versions (Apple TV/iOS etc) they still haven't worked out that showing the game time duration on a replay is actually a massive spoiler.

Funnily enough the best device currently for it in my experience (and without any spoilers) is the PS4.
