If ever there was a game for Radar to prove his worth in, it's tonight. I get the feeling though that we erred with this decision and that Dal Santo will be the better player long term.

1. Hawthorn - Luke Hodge (Geelong U18)
2. St Kilda - Luke Ball (Sandringham U18)
3. West Coast - Chris Judd (Sandringham U18)
4. Fremantle - Graham Polak (East Fremantle)
5. St Kilda - Xavier Clarke (St Marys)
6. West Coast - Ashley Sampi (South Fremantle)
7. Kangaroos - David Hale (Broadbeach)
8. Geelong - James Bartel (Geelong U18)
9. Melbourne - Luke Molan (Geelong U18)
10. Western Bulldogs - Sam Power (Oakleigh U18)
11. Collingwood - Richard Cole (Eastern U18)
12. Adelaide - Brent Reilly (Calder U18)
13. St Kilda - Nick Del Santo (Bendigo U18)
14. Kangaroos - Ashley Watson (Bendigo U18)
15. Port Adelaide - Barry Brooks (Tasmania U18)
16. Hawthorn - Rick Ladson (Bendigo U18)
17. Geelong - James Kelly (Calder U18)
18. Essendon- Shane Harvey (Northern U18)
19. Brisbane - Jason Gram (Gippsland U18)
20. Hawthorn - Daniel Elstone (Bendigo U18)

According to the above list of top 20 in the 2001 AFL draft, I would say NDS was an absolute bargain. If you were to rate that list in terms of talent (from highest to lowest) I reckon he'd be at number 4.

Dal Santo is already a star. Reilly, well, let's just hope he becomes a damn good player. Would love to see him play a blinder tonight.

Lets see how Nick Dal Santo goes when Robert Harvey, Andrew Thompson, and Aussie Jones are no longer in the side.

When the pressure is placed on Luke ball and Dal Santo to preform with taggers (Steven Baker if Dal Santo leaves the saints) hanging and grabbing them at ever opportunity. The 2 reasons Nick Dal Santo is good is because, (1) one he got given an opportunity to play early and gain that experience and (2) two he is in a good side where he can be the 3rd or 4th mid field option (but getting the states of the number 1 midfielder).

How good would Brent Reilly look if we still had Kane Johnson and Tyson Stenglein running around, BR could play on the half back or wing and have a bum on him, allowing his to get 25 touches a game and look like a star instead he has been in and out his confidence and form has suffered resulting him Dal Santo looking like a better option as a pick up.

What about Reilly? I don't watch other teams as much as most of you do so I'd be interested to hear where others rate Reilly in that group.

How good did Brent Reilly look last year when he had Stenglein still running around, along with Ricciuto, Edwards, etc.

Dal Santo is already tagged like a top 3 midfielder, Reilly...is not.

 Dal is our number one midfelder not a 3rd 4th midfeil option... He is the one getting taged the hardest..

Well if you were to rate the draft list in order from best to worst, you'd probably find that Reilly would be in the middle somewhere (10-->14 depending on opinion), so realistically, we haven't done too bad. NDS however, probably would figure in the top 3.

Elstone, Harvey, Watson and Molan were obvious flops. Ladson, Brooks and Gram would also be behind Reilly in terms of development IMO.

Del Santo looks good because he is good.
Reilly has a long way to go before he's mentioned in the same league.

It could always have been worse - we could have taken Richard Cole.

I wasn’t insinuation that Brent Reilly was better than Nick Dal Santo or even ‘as good as’ what I was suggesting is that it helps that he has good players around him to take some of the pressure of. It helps that he has 2 very good forwards (G Train and Riewoldt) to reward his hard work down the field as well as a defence that is capable of stoping lots of attacks, hence giving St kilda midfield a lot of opportunities to be attacking.

Would Nick Dal Santo be the same sort of player with the Adelaide Crows, would have he developed as quickly as a player? Its all about situation of club and the mentality of the senior coach towards young players, Grant Thomas has no other option other than to play the kids and give them the opportunities, GA would not and did not have the same mentality towards giving a kid a go.

Could Brent Reilly develop into that player already at St Kilda?

Err Ricciuto, Thompson, Goodwin, Edwards, McLeod.

Reilly has no excuses at the moment.

Isn't Dal Santo out of contract this year also? Would be a great pickup, but unfortunately I can see him either going to Collingwood for megabucks or staying put to be a part of a potential flag winning team. I think the latter as he seems like a very team oriented player and a decent kid.

St Kilda are going to be hard pressed to satisfy their middle level players who have performed well though, so expect a few to spill onto the market.

jacks starting to think reilly = good trade material. I reckon he only wants to stay here, cause he has little confidence in himself. This is just an asumption.
What did I tell you jack, to assume is to make and ass out of you...... :p

Reilly has a LONG way to go before he becomes a consistent midfielder. Nick Dal Santo ********s all over Reilly
