his three albums are some of the finest work ever comitted to tape. possibly the most underappreciated artists of all time.

Agree. I have all three and I find them all different in their own ways. Pink Moon, his last, is a very depressing recording but by the same token sneaks up lyrically. After listening to Pink Moon I always feel OK even though I know the consequences of the words.
I think that the vast majority who have had the good fortune to be introduced to his music will prefer Five Leaves Left. For a more sunny side, if Nicks music can be called sunny Byter Layter is the recording to listen to. Agree?

i can only listen to pink moon alone and in its entirety. it has to be listened to as a complete record, not as individual songs, and you really have to go inside the songs to get the full impact. one of the most moving and deeply personal records that has ever been released. stuff like road, parasite and things behind the sun...wow.

five leaves left has a more straight out folky edge, with a bit of a dark side, where as bryter later has a more upbeat feel, and i like the jazz and rock elements to the record too.

I had never heard of him before but picked up Pink Moon on a recommendation. Some really great stuff, could have been recorded yesterday. Didnt he sell more albums in 2000 then he did in all first previous years combined? Shame about his death.

up until his death, all his records had barely sold 10.000 copies combined. i find this to be quite unbelievable.

Does that mean that you only play Pink Moon nowadays and not the others? Sorry if I am confused. I agree thought that Pink Moon is best listened in one session. To play the songs individually seems to take away from the whole. Perhaps because we know his personal circumstances this makes sense.

i meant i can only listen to it when im by myself. you have to immerse yourself into it, with no distractions. i think knowing his circumstances and ultimate demise makes the album content a little more pertinent, but even so, the lyrics are so intense it has to be listened to as a whole piece to be able to get the full scope of what is being expressed.

i definitely listen to his other records regularly. in fact im giving 'bryter layter' a spin right now.

all this nick drake talk just made me wanna hear 'at the chime of a city clock'. thats probably my favorite song of his.
A superb song indeed. The strings fill the song and the sax just adds that extra dimension, almost a jazz feel to the haunting lyrics.

Sigh! Back to work:( .
