Holman a Blueboy
“This means everything to me,” Holman said. ”I suppose I worked all year for the draft, through the draft combine, the nationals and the TAC Cup.

“I think it means everything for the work that I’ve put in.”

“I love a contest and I’m pretty attacking”.

Lockyer Says: Came in for his first game of footy and at half time he was our leading player defensively, so he made a great impression first up. He looked more than capable at this level and hopefully goes on to bigger and better things in the future.
Statistics: 3 kicks, 2 marks, 5 handballs, 8 possessions, 1 clearance, 2 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s, 4 tackles

Kid is an animal...........in the nicest sort of way.

I know I've built up some of the other boys but this guy could possibly become a favourite in the way he goes about things.

See ball, get ball..............get in the way...............sees ball and will go through you to get ball. :)

Would have done Tommy Bell proud for one of the crunches he laid on an opponent last week. The Ooooooohs echoed around the ground....Beast.

Plenty of mongrel I hope?

Nick looks to have settled in quite nicely already.

Statistics don't tell the full story but going on them alone he seems to have picked up the pace of VFL football already.

Round 1
14 disposals (8 kicks, 6 handballs), 6 marks, 4 tackles.

Round 2

23 disposals (14 kicks, 9 marks, 7 marks, 5 tackles & named in the bests for the Northern Blues.

He's a fan of the bash and crash like Robinson & Bell but he does appear to be more a more well-rounded footballer than them.

Wouldn't surprise me if we saw Nick in Navy Blue at some stage this year.

Nick may have had his worst game for the year as he lost composure and played frustrated for most of the match.
Fortunately pulled some things together in the last half when he concentrated on his football rather than the man and the want to impress.

Having said that though most would have been impressed for Nick's enthusiasm, endeavour and take no prisoners approach, in his first year.
Would like to see a little more muscle on him next year........................Just to save himself from getting injured. :)

Nick is playing as though he's been deprived..........which is a good thing.
Seeing rookies in Sheehan, Johnson and Wood get a start before him, should be a fillip if he works things through well.

Just struggling a little with getting the right mix of aggression with his game but you can't knock the effort and it would have been duly noticed.

Next year would be a good time to launch as he's shown his mettle already this year.

I think his effort in the senior side, especially given what a horrible game it was for us, was pretty good. Intent was great, tackled hard, and didn't seem overawed at all.

Really? I loved his intent but he was way out of his depth. Overawed is exactly how I'd describe his performance.

Hmm I guess we saw different things and it can be hard on TV. Compared to a lot of raw kids I thought he looked surprisingly in control. I thought Blaine looked more hesitant and unsure.

Anyway it matters not, either way I'm sure he showed enough for Mick and co to be reasonably happy, especially under the circumstances.

So he should've. He lined up on one of the brownlow & AFLCA award favourites in his first game.

Loved what I saw against Frankston Sunday. Played as our main on baller, hunted the ball and loved the contest. Looks hard as nails.

Shouldn't be far off his second game if he puts together a few more good ones.

Dare I say we need a couple of competitors in the 1s

kidding mate he had three good games in a row an attacks the man an ball why would we want that in our team :drunk:

but really how he didn't get a game ahead of smith or named last week as me stunned is a born leader an loves hitting into players!

Nick has done himself no harm in being retained on the list, in recent weeks.

Having watched him on Saturday, he seemed quite accomplished playing through the middle.
Good move by the club giving him that opportunity as he has shown enough concentration in the past 12 months, in shutting down opponents.

I feel that his development cycle has been favourable and look forward to seeing Nick mow down many more opponents over time.

Looks a different player from the skinny boy who was thrown to the wolves last year

Hard at it and good skills, crikey we've unearthed another one!

VFL stats leaders

Top Tackler: Nick Holman (Northern Blues)

Carlton-listed Holman is quickly building a reputation for his uncompromising attack on the ball and the man, with the 20-year-old leading the league’s tackle tally on 71. He comes in ahead of renowned hard-nuts Adam Marcon(Williamstown) with 70 and Myles Sewell (North Ballarat) on 69.

Really excited about Holman. Although he hasn't done alot during his first few senior appearances, he has shown enough to say that he will make it as a footballer. He's tough, sticks up for his team mates, doesn't take a backward step and looks to have pretty good skills. Can see him becoming a cult figure
