if this kid put on another 5-10 kilos (or build similar to J Brown) and still could play the same way he would be the most feared h/b in the league
first game back after a broken leg and still plays hard

There is no way he will EVER be built like Jonathan Brown - He simply doesn't have the frame for it.

Lets not forget that he's already 23, so we're not going to see a huge change in his build from here. He might be able to put on a bit of weight, but in the end, he won't change much.

Heart of a champion though - Love his work.

Lonie and Davies should take a leaf out of this blokes book. Good to see Nick back in the side and doing well.

lonie stitched up ben dixon big time last night...absolutly killed him

dixon normally causes us problems he beat obrien earlier in the year and kicked 5 i think

Noticed that about Max last night especially, loves to lay body on body whenever he gets the chance...looks forward to a contest which is great as we have had a disturbing number of young blokes pulling out of contest (t. cloke, Davies, Pendles). Maxy and J Cloke are quite refreshing in their tenacity at the contest. Both were very good last night, and Eddiesmith, no reason why they cant both play in the same team.

Agreed. Maxy is so important as he gives us the flexibility down back (playing on small, tall, or medium) that we can release Lonie from the need to play on a medium tall in defence, and he can just run wide on the wing.

His firmness in the contest is so important, especially since (as mentioned) T CLoke, Pendles, Lonie, etc are less so.

Nick Maxwell is what we missed in our terrible month and a bit...the fear. He has been recognised by the internal football world (not the public or media yet though) as a man who goes about his business and adds that toughness to the side. He shows his presence every minute he is out there. He has heart and is becoming a better player every week.

One of my favourite players because of those reasons.

Davies had 3 moments where he had to put his body on the line.
In two of them not only did he put his body on line but he was hardly even in the contest to begin with and he threw his body at the contest.
But of course you only remember the bad sides of those situations.

Pendlebury hardly pulled out, he stupidly thought Clement (I think) had control of the situation.

How many AFL footballers have a build similar to J. Brown. Not Pavlich, not Reiwoldt, Tredrea even, it isn't that simple. Name one?

Fingers crossed with T3 tho :)

By the way is Brown a reincarnation of Carey???

I would certinaly be giving Davies the benefit of the doubt , it you look at the vision he actually jumps past the footy and realised he was not in the right spot, it looks as though he lost it in the light. You only need to look at his effort late in the game to relise he is not a squib.

Not so sure about pendlebury. One of the things we have to except is that with his BB background he probably won't be very tough. He may get tougher over time but this one did not look good , even if he thought someone behind him had it covered he should still be going for it, the bloke behind always covers the guy in front and if there is no bloke you get crunched and so be it.

He did squib but he'll have to learn from that or end up being another Lonie. He looks similar to Birchall, athletic, clean hands and good skills.

While I don't think Pendles is that hard, I don't necessarily think that the instance on Fri night is a good example of this. When looking at the replay, he was a fair way off the contest, and he then came in. The ball should have been spoiled by the other people, and then he would have been in perfect position. The old rule "1 up and 2 down" in a marking contest. He was doing the right thing by way of positioning, but got shown up a little bit because none of our defenders got a fist on the pill

last time i checked Carey was still alive and no
what are you questioning in my post, similar is not the word exact, why are you challenging me to name them when i only said similar
pav has a similar build
tredrae has similar build
and our very own walker has a similar build, not the way they play but the way they are built
the very first word in my post was if, like
"if we make the grand final"

Maxwell will captain Collingwood someday. Watch this space.

Have made a similar post to this in the past...

Just for those calling Pendles soft while he might not be a physical player i wouldn't call him soft. For the record while the friday night incident didn't look good Scott was called out of that contest but jimmy clement. Don't think you can be critical of a first year player for doing what jimmy tells them.
