Future Captain?

May have been overlooked by some, did anyone else notice Suban pumping up everyone around him before the players ran through the barrier?

To be perfectly honest he fits the mould perfectly as the kind of guy to lead this club in the future. Hard at it, great skills, smart player, willing to sacrifice. Is a perfect benchmark setter at a club.

P.s. I thought it was about time he deserved his own thread to pump him up. Has totally slipped under the radar for media pundits and supporters alike. Deserves far more praise.

Good call super sonic docker!
Young Suban certainly has been one to fly under the radar.
He certainly is doing some good things out on the park. I think he has really fitted in well with the team and shown a real maturity for such a young bloke.

I am impressed with his massiv kick that has extreme accuracy, something I think has been instrumental in our last 3 wins. In particular against the Blues, 2 or 3 time he kicked in long and to the advantage of one of our boys in the forward 50m.

:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Suban's been good but I seriously doubt he'll ever be a great player or anywhere close to being captaincy material. I see him as being a similar player to shannon hurn, hes got a long kick and good skills but he's not really classy and I don't think he'll ever really one of our best or most important players.
Palmer is the clear favourite to be our next captain followed by Ibbotson.

Agree with creamygoodness.... (what a strange handle). Palmer is definitely next in line. You want a guy in the guts to be your captain preferably, and one who has leadership qualities like Palmer.

Suban WILL be the next captain of this club... has leadership written all over him in the way he goes about everything...

He wont be playing in a back pocket forever... instead he will be re-writing the Luke Hodge quarter-back role ;)

Just curious as to why a captain is required in the guts?? Off the top of my head more than a fair share in the comp are not...

Yeah MiJo loved that loose unaccountable backman position too, until he was manned up.

Really?

Hawthorn 08 - Mitchell
WCE 06 - Judd
Sydney 05 - Kirk
Brisbane 01,02,03 - Voss
Essendon 00 - Hird

Whilst one in there has been a backmen, and one a forward, most have been in the center.

doesnt matter if you name a pack of crayons captain......if you play well you win if you dont you lose

so this memories character thinks if haselby was captain because hes in the centre we play better ?????LOL

It's largely because he doesn't get impressive stat tallies or DT scores ATM.

I've been happy with his progress this year ... definitely looks to have leaned down and improved his pace .

Disagree that he won't become one of our most important players ... guys that can consistently make good decisions and kick long, flat and accurately are of utmost importance in beating zone setups, then you also have his natural footy smarts, attack on the ball, strength and balance and leadership skills / football character etc. etc.

Hird - utility, played forward as well as much as midfield.

Lets see - 96, 99 - Wayne Carey
95 - Kernahan
94 - Worsfold
93 - Thompson
92 - Worsfold
91 - Tuck

All weren't gut players when they captained their sides to Victory.

I saw him up close in Fremantle one Thursday. He was sitting down outside somewhere with some of the development coaches I think, and a few other young guys.

My first thought was, "get into bodybuilding as a career bud".

He doesn't have shoulders at the moment, but he'll get them come 22-23. And they'll be huge judging by his frame.

He could really be a mean looking tank if he wanted to be. Has an impressive frame.

I love the way Suban goes about it. He directs players on the field, always talking, etc. ... acts like a senior player. I'm not expecting him to get anywhere near Hodge, but that is the player he reminds me of. Attitude wise, build, kicking, just a bit shorter.

I can easily see him being vice captain or captain. Depends how good he turns out. He was Vic Country captain, so that is an obvious sign of his leadership potential.

I reckon Suban has obvious leadership potential and is definitely a possible future captain. He is only in his first year and has a lot more to him than a good kick. He'll be twice the player Shannon Hurn is. Palmer would not necessarily thrive under the captaincy either. He may be better left to just play the game and destroy the opposition.

Currently amongst the captains (no-one said premiership captains) it is pretty even between Mids and KPPs, plus Maxwell :D

Adelaide - Not sure if it is Edwards or Goodwin?? MID
Brisbane - Johnathon Brown CHF
Carlton - Chris Judd MID
Collingwood - Nick Maxwell HBF
Essendon - Matthew Lloyd FF
Fremantle - Matthew Pavlich CHF/FF/MID
Geelong - Tom Harley CHB
Hawthorn - Sam Mitchell MID
Melbourne - James McDonald MID
Kangaroos - Brent HArvey MID
Power - Dominic Cassissi MID
Richmond - Kane Johnson MID
St Kilda - Nick Reiwoldt CHF/FF
Swans - Adam Goodes MID/FF
West Coast - Darren Glass FB
Bulldogs - Brad Johnson FF

The Slime News liftout today had a pic of Suban and Haselby having a man hug. 'cough cough'
Anyway, I thought here is the best clearance player passing on positive energy  to our new next best clearance player.:p
Not only that Suban is quicker and kicks further.
It's all good.

Surely you jest. His skills are excellent for a rookie and his disposal top rate. His vision and footy brain is there and he is hard at it. He was rated in the top few mid year for the draft. He seemed to have lost some of his body fat already and will now fill out. Shannon Hurn is a man child with a great kick but little else.

Just to remind all please use potential capt wisely. A young man named Drum was described as a future capt...

Suban is a natural footballer who happens to have a really good kick.

Hurn seems a bit different. Not so much a natural footballer, but more the athlete type with a good kick.

Please don't compare Suban to Hurn he is already a far more complete player and more natural footballer.

If I had my choice in a few years after Pav it would be Ibbo for captain with Palmer VC and maybe if he keeps going the way he is Suban as another VC.

There is a more than reasonable chance Suban will need to run through the midfield this week (and Broughton or Pearce into defense) after the MRP (Must Rape Purple) did a job on Schammer.

I like Suban.

Before the 08 draft I actually posted that I like the looks of Hill and Suban, as I rated both and thought they had very nice foot skills and I was flamed by certain users about it saying my judgement on foot skills was pathetic and these two didn't have them.

Guess I was the one that was on the money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with Sidebottom and Beams, but I definitely like the looks of Suban, and Hill.....well yeah, anyone who couldn't see the potential there was blind. he will be an out and out match winner.

Suban is a little freaking beauty. Can't believe some don't rate him This kid is playing his first year and he's already hard as nails, smart, reliable and very highly rated as a young man of character. Over the moon with his being at Freo. 200 quality games of AFL coming up here. Hope they are all for us.
