Liverpool FC,
I just need an answer to something which has confused me today. On Mark Dorans show and his quiz he asked the question who are the 5 sides who have never had a NO 1 draft pick.

Now Geelong wasnt one of them but im sure we havent. The only one i can think of is Steven Hooper. Is this correct.

In our defense with didn't finish last for that pick and the two guys we trade to Brisbane for it were no good either.

Here is it, there was a predraft in 1990, 13 picks went before him despite being number 1.

The real question is who the hell is Paul Mifka?

Back on topic, how did Hooper go pick one if he was pick 14?

Looks like there was a draft for the expansion teams, a whole round of priority picks you could say. Hooper was the 1st pick in the open draft.

... although he did kick 10 goals in the reserves one day at KP, IIRC

Blight said at the time - demanded at the time - a key ruckman - so Geelong drafted Hooper (who was the biggest and most likely potential ruckman). Looked good a few times but in the end failed to live up to expectations.

James Hird went pick 79?? WTF!!!

Played in a first grade premiership here at age 15 or 16. Seems strange that everyone somehow overlooked him, as blokes like Ben Aulich and Robert Neill got picked up by Sydney.

I got my name on the same u13s trophy as him about 10 years later :p Can't believe I was never drafted.
