In todays powertiser there is a letter to the editor written by port power supporter or someone who has not been following footy for long [same thing ]
saying we should scrap the 19th man saying its un sportman like and its appalling and degrading

The best footy teams in the nation are in action opposing players shake one anothers hands in overt display of sportmanship and respect and we salute our best and fairest.
A great time to exterminate the worst and foulest player in the game the 19th man.
As a opposition players pulls down a mark 40 meters out from goal even the most ardent Crow supporter would admire the ability.
AS THE PLAYER LINES UP FOR HIS KICK THE NUMBER 19 FLASHES ON THE SCREEN the stadium erupts with a sickening roar as fans boo curse stomp and do their up most to put of the kicker he misses and the crowd erupts. How can we teach our kids about good sportsmanship and a fair go in the face of appaling behaviour
Such ritualised and offically endorsed hooliganism is the antithesis of what sport should be about.

It even gets a picture of OUR 19th man flag good god what a load of crap Putting the oppostion of while having a shot on goal and then clapping when they miss never ever seen that before god what next

What a crappy letter, that's footy, whether they like it or not.
It is not cricket, that's the way footy is, leave it that way.

Wow, that's a bit precious.

I suppose he'd rather we all gave the opposition players a light round of applause for taking a mark. And if he manages to score the maximum against our beloved Crows we should all remark "Oh Chin-chin! Bravo! What a fine marksman that Lance Franklin is! Hard cheese about losing the final and all that, oh well see you next year old chap, ta-ra!"

Maybe he should write a letter of concern about one of his own rabble's problems before trying to look for problems with the Crows.

I wanted to throw the paper when I read this - ANOTHER letter about it . Pretty sure EVERY team's supporters do it, Collingwood supporters certainly did it in the final. And the WCE game - when we were going for goal someone in the WCE cheersquad was whistling - and that whistling was heard almost all the ground, you could even hear it on TV!

So why is everyone attacking the Crows? Just because we have named it something??? Just p*ss off and leave us alone!
I hope the person who wrote that letter is watching the Grand Final this weekend, because without a doubt, the supporters will be doing it there.
Unsportsman-like - pfft . It's not as if we yell out abuse to the player (well..I don't - not sure about others...). The players even try to distract the player by running in front of them, jumping up and down and waving their hands...if anything THAT is unsportsman-like, not what the crowd is doing. Isn't it unsportsman-like that we boo the umpires too? No one complains about that!
ARGHHH! I'm not in a good mood today - and these sort of people MAKE IT WORSE! FFS! Get a life! Or go to a football game! EVEN THE SANFL SUPPORTERS DO IT!
"What is this teaching our kids?"
ITS TEACHING THEM TO HAVE A CUP OF CEMENT AND HARDEN UP!

lol. These precious people should go to a game of basketball some day.

even at a basketball game the home crowd whistles and makes noise to put of the shooter taking free throws, especially behind the basket

I went to a NFL game last year and the home crowd behind the goals goes nuts when a kicker goes for the extra points

this is nothing new, I expect the home crowds to support their team and try and put off the opposition

I bet if one of us wrote that port power should not get to use the creed as it belongs to some other club it would not get in the paper

Just a little bit of fairness thats all we want dont expect 50/50 we would never get that

Yikes, I’d hate to be the child of that guy. You would have to play sports were no one wins but everyone “has a good time”.

I don’t want to say typical Port Supporter because I strongly doubt that anyone even on Bigfooty would agree with that and I would be surprised if any supporter below the age of 95 and with an IQ greater than 30 would agree with it.

I gather that type of person spends their time complaining about things in life rather than just getting on with it.

Haha hilarious!

He got his facts wrong anyway. '19' doesn't flash up on the screen when the opposition have a shot for goal.

Comedy Gold:D:thumbsu:

Cricket isn't any better, I wonder whether this person knew that along with being World Champion Cricketers, our Australian Cricket Team are world champion sledgers. This person must be a tennis player/enthusiast, where the crowd must be silent for a serve and etiquette is strict importance. Some people I guess won't be happy until before bouncing the ball up the umpire says "quiet please".

The 19th man and more to the point sledging etc. to put off an opponent is nothing new, we just happen to be the first side to make the most of it. Mind games and things such as this are a part of sport, elite athletes are those who can not only handle and conquer the physical side of their chosen sports, but also the mental side. The ability to shut out all external distractions and still perform a skill in front of many thousands of people is a great skill and separates the best from the rest.

I have one thing to say to this person, "harden the **** up".

Don't ever got to a Basketball in Greece then!!!!!!!!
Or anywhere else in europe really! I have been to some european basketball and soccer games and even the most loud and obnoxious AFL fans are choir boys compared to some of the things you see overseason.

This is a precious letter to the editor. Rucci was the first one to ask this question at the after match press conference (can't remember who we played). He asked Craig if he thought that the 19th man concept was unsportsman like when it comes to us making noise when the opposition lines up for goal. Craig practically laughed it off as he should!

Or golf. Pro golfers get very upset at the slightest noise (even the shutter going off in a camera) when they're teeing off.

For someone who has stopped reading the Advertiser:

My mate knows i dont read the powertiser but he phoned me up today and said you have to read the article under the roast so i found one and had a read

How did you find this article then? You seem quite obsessed with it, as well as their Chief Football Writer. :D

FWIW, I thought the letter to editor was absurd. Quite clearly someone out of touch with the competition that sport provides. If this person probably had their way, a score wouldn't be kept!!

So Port supporters get criticised for being abusive, feral etc. yet people are concluding that this was written by a port supporter? Right-o. Nice one!

Id say it was written by someone whos been to one game of football in their life. Supporters have been booing, jeering, yelling crap out, and in the past throwing streamers at players lining up for goal for decades. Its nothing new.

Its just more fun to imagine it was written by a Port Fan :D
