Since last Saturdays match against Carlton there has been alot of media scrutiny at punt road and supporter angst. Most of it warranted.
But its important & imperative that we remember how we got in this mess & that is from trading away early picks for mature players.
We have been linked with MacIntosh etc and some supporters are sayin that we should trade for b Lake.
The club must hold their nerve and not trade early picks for players that there best football has past them.
I hate watching us lose but I would give up on the club if it traded our first pick for players like Hamish MacIntosh who turns 26 next year or if they traded our compensation pick next year in a draft tipped to be the strongest since the Judd draft.
In the superdraft we traded our picks for Stafford, Biddlescombe, P Hudson etc In recent years we traded a priority pick for J MacMahon, and missed on Calan Ward.
Dimma, Gale, FJ, Please dont make the same mistakes, and stick to what Dimma promised when he was elected and have no short Cuts. No topping up at the expense of future tiger champions. Our best players, Cotchin, Martin, Jack & Lids are all early picks

:)ALL clubs, not just Richmond, owes it to themselves to explore ALL options. While I agree with the basic philosophy of not trading away early picks (and I doubt we will), but you need to weigh up who you are getting in return. Say if we were to offload the Tambling compensation pick for Trengove from the Power. I don't necessarily see thta as a bad thing. We'll get a player who is two/three years ahead in development of the incoming player and will fill an immediate need. There needs to be an element of risk too ... no guarantee that the player we use that pick on will work out.

And once more - for the benefit of ALL - Richmond would have picked Selwood and not Callan Ward, so that argument is redundant. McMahon was a mistake, YES, but Ward will never have been a Tiger!!

Two clubs that are spoken in the breath as us - Melbourne and North Melbourne - both had disgusting losses in their last game. North were systematically destroyed today and Melbourne was flogged last week in an ordinary performance. Both clubs are young and are learning.
But no, we are just crap.
It goes with the territory.

No trading picks (simple rule).
Exception - we make a preliminary final and are killed in the ruck, we can trade for an established ruckman but we don't overpay.

Oh and no more Brad Millers lets just see what our young guys can do with extra opportunity (I'm livid Post has missed out on valuable game time up forward because he does have something to offer we just need to bring it out).

From memory we traded Daffy for Stafford, and Stafford proved a useful player for us, unlike the other blokes you've mentioned there. That said, I agree with your point.

We need a ruckman certainly, but no point trading picks now for one, we're not challenging for the 8 and have other holes to fill. Collingwood waited before pursuing Jolly, by that point in their development, high draft picks weren't as important as filling a specific need. We should wait before chasing the quality ruckman that we need, especially since by then free agency will be in and we might not have to trade with anyone anyway.

As for Brian Lake, even if he wasn't too old to be of any use to us when our time comes, his form this year has been atrocious.

Sorry to break more depressing news, u were partly correct. It was Nick Daffy and our first pick (which was pick 17 ) for Stafford.

Whilst to some extent this is true. Melbourne lost to West Coast (a likely top 4 side) in Perth and North got a belting from Collingwood (best side in the comp).

On the other hand we allowed an ordinary side like Essendon to kick 10 unanswered goals.

Great post Delids. Stay true to the path Dimma. There is nothing to be gained from short cuts.

Melbourne lost to the Dogs by 11 goals not West Coast.
I was more referring to our loss to Carlton, a top 4 side as well.

There is a problem, will he fill an immediate need?? There is no guarantee Trengrove will develop further and work out in fact I think he could be another spud and not get better in areas he needs to due to physical restrictions he has for the positions he is being made to play.

I actually, think Trengrove for mine has shown enough that he won't make it and in a good team like Colligwood or Hawthorn he wouldn't get a game IMO!

Great, we're now being compared to a side that hasn't won a flag for almost 50 years and a side whose supporters would fit in a phone box! :thumbsd:

Oh, that's how we parted with that pick! Got traded on by about 5 clubs and ended up being James Kelly from memory, ouch.

The same ordinary side that beat the top side last week too. Yeah we capitulated but hell every other week a side can be made to look ordinary by an opposition. West Coast made Carlton look crap, collingwood made west coast look terrible and hawthorn and you could keep naming most sides outside of Collingwood and Geelong this year.

That doesn't mean we would have selected James Kelly.

True, but we could have, other players who went inbetween Kelly and our first pick at 33 (Rodan) includes Steve Johnson, Jason Gram, Campbell Brown, Mark Seaby and Matt Maguire (he may not have had the same injuries at Richmond). So it still hurts, would love to have Stevie J or Kelly, Seaby would be pretty handy right now too.
