Who was available who we thought would improve our list? Maybe nobody.

The draft. These were players we wanted to pick up cheaply. At a certain point the potential draftees we are targeting become far more attractive. The whole recruitment process is important in the end. The draft is next.

It is just as stupid an argument to say "It's all the clubs fault" as "the club has no fault". There are things that are in the club's control that may have been done differently just as there are variables outside the club's control. In the end Noble has to make calls, rightly or wrongly. But it is abundantly clear that the back up options to the cheap pick ups that we rated are the draftees we are after. If we didn't think we could get our priority target type players with picks 23 and 46 we would have seen different strategies in the trade period.

Interesting that he says we'll take one maybe two picks in the draft...

As said previously, we only have 25 draftable players on our list...so if we don't have one of those 25 slide to pick 46...we aint drafting one and will focus on the rookie draft.

That just sounds like complete crap.
Are we seriously saying their are only 25 boys in of of Australia that we believe are worth drafting this year? Or are we saying that once you take out the first 22 there are only 25 more?
There will be players drafted after pick 25 that will be stars.

Based on that argument ...why did we draft Siggins and Atkins last year ....Atkins at #81?????
Last years draft was slightly better than this year .......but this year is not that dramatically worse

The former. This years draft is really crap. Sure there may be 'stars' that will be taken after this, but we don't rate anyone and nor do many other teams. Why would we commit to a 2 year contract @ 80k on a player we don't rate??

I'm confident we will use pick 46 but as I said, there's a chance we won't...just depends on what's available then...pretty simple.

Because they were the only two picks we had, and you have to make at least 3 draft selections. Surely you didn't need to ask that question?

So can you finish the PSD with a spot still on your list or do you have to upgrade a rookie?

I believe we can go into PSD with a free spot or we can go into next season with just 39 players at which point we can upgrade a rookie before Round 1 if a player over summer has been burning up.

I presume Laird and Hartigan will be upgraded at the list lodgement later this week.

I find that absolutely staggering. Its so ridiculous to almost be arrogant.
Only 25 boys we think can play AFL?
That is just mental. There would be about 10 from SA alone that would be capable surely.

So we are meant to believe a Port's supporter hypothetical over the list manager who directly worked with the trade? Ahhhhh, makes sense.

And I guess with the Polec thread closed now, you had to start posting in here?

Don't be like that. I don't think that this guy has contradicted what Noble said. I actually think what he says makes sense. I do believe that Polec played us.

All along I thought (and stated) that he was always going to go to Port but that maybe the Crows had offered him more money. So he used us to get Port to increase their offer. Perhaps I am wrong here. Who knows for sure.

However Janus is correct when he says that if Polec wanted to come to us he would have told Brisbane he didn't care about what they got for him he will go to the crows via the PSD if necessary. He couldn't use that point about the Power because we had a pick in the PSD before the Power. I think that Polec never wanted to come to us in the first place.

Perhaps because they were on our list and lasted until that stage of the draft?

I do wonder how we plan to do our list changes then because we could potentially delist someone then have no one on our "list" remaining come our second round pick. I guess we'd just have a crack at a project player that we might have been looking at for the rookie list instead.

Of course.

And if he's not valuable why would we pursue him?

And if he's not worth the asking price, who are the other players we are targeting?

The value of Polec. Not whether he has value. There are tipping points, and this probably came into play with the way we attacked it in the end. Your throw big coin scenario works if the return is adequate. And there needs to be a balance to construct multiple opportunities for return. Throwing that coin now rather than at a free agent next year when there are good names coming up. Can't make every decision as a straight line enhance our attack on the comp next year.

I see you've gone back and edited your post from earlier.

Maybe if you did that with all your posts they'd make more sense.

lol, I didn't go back and edit it to play you for a fool. I added a heap straight after I had posted it, because there was a lot I wanted to say but that hadn't come together coherently in my head yet, and since the message was fresh (and I assumed not read by anyone) I added it to the same message rather than a separate one.

You jumped on it pretty damn quickly to have a jab at me, because it wasn't one line for long. Speaks for itself really, bud.

Yes it does

It also said that we rated Atkins higher than Laird.

We could have upgraded Laird from the rookie list and taken Atkins as a rookie.

Does that make anyone question their faith in our rating of players?

no system is perfect and its just silly to start looking at these sort of angles to start hammering the afc over. we played more young guys and debutants this year then most clubs. give it a rest.

I'm really starting to believe that the Crows (and to a lesser extent Port) choose who hosts that show. 5AA probably put forward a few candidates and we pick the dumbest ones that we know won't ask tough questions when we are interviewed. In return we agree to make ourselves available for interviews on a regular basis.
Its simple- its that whole underdog Psyche that exists in Australia. if you are smart , good looking, successful- knock them. If you are a bogan, underdog , plain bloke with not much going for you promote them because your a good bloke.
