See I prefer the 'own website' option too, but then the fact that I've never run a website or done much with html before makes it really difficult to know how to manage it etc.

But on the other hand if I go on WordPress, it's much much easier for me and lets me see if it's something I want to continue with...but then is there an easy way to transfer things over or do I have to start from scratch basically?

Why don't you get someone to run the website, but you provide the content? Create a partnership.

its semi easy to transfer it from word press just depends on what domain company you use.

I don't have the money to pay someone to run it and I don't know anybody who knows what they're doing enough to do it for free. :P

Made some progression on my site last night. :) Have a name, the start of a layout and a bit of content written. Going with WordPress for now and will transition to my own site down the track perhaps.

Used to do a bit of writing for Pen & Paper Sports and the guy who runs that did the same thing - now has over 100 writers in a few different countries
He tends to focus on the American sports now though.

Jeez, that's awesome, haha. Would be great. Admittedly though, I'm more interested in hopefully getting into list/recruiting management down the track than AFL journalism. Although taking Twomey/Plough's jobs would be nice too. :)

That sounds good, you seem pretty switched on with the potential draftees even in a relatively shallow one such as this.
I enjoyed writing for P&PS, I'm working next year but after that I'm doing a journalism/business double degree, with an eye to AFL journalism. If I couldn't run around in the red, white and blue every week, what better than to get into the industry in some other way?

Thanks mate. Still have a lot to learn and a long way to go if I'm going to give myself a chance, but it's something to work towards.

AFL journalism would be fun, but the thing turning me off it is the pressure that gets put on you to be an opinionated campaigner if you are to make it big. Reed's a good journalist when she writes her stuff - that Five Seasons article was incredible - but she doesn't break the big stories and doesn't take potshots at people, so she's not as well known or anything. It frustrates me and I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with that sort of crap, haha.

Yeah, well, you have to start somewhere.

I'd love it because I just love everything about the game and getting to write about it and exchange my opinion with other people as a job would be fantastic, but I'm not the sort of person to aggressively target someone for making a mistake unless they've wronged me somehow, and that seems part and parcel with a media job unfortunately. I also really couldn't give a shit what players do with their lives off the field unless it sheds a bad light on the club or affects their football, whereas for some of them blokes like Dustin Martin are just a dream.

Reed's a fantastic journalist, doesn't have the mean-streak though, haha. Although, you see Matthew Lloyd trying to get to the top by making big, decisive (often ill-informed and downright incorrect) calls on situations or people, and he hasn't really gotten anywhere or gained any credibility for anything other than his on-field achievements.

make sure you get decent security Dannnnnnnnnn
most sites now adays deal with DoS each day which could leave a big mark on ya site.

Would a website featuring solely draft write ups have enough depth to constitute an entire website?

Or do you plan on doing analysis on other things as well?

Draft prospect write ups, mock drafts, U18 game summaries, list reviews, round reviews, trade period preview/reviews, so on and so forth.

i suggest later on with your site
you do face-face interviews with players, coaches etc

then advance to vfl later on if you would to cover the whole basis.

Well you certainly have the knowledge. :p

I'll bookmark it for sure, then when you strike it big I can say "I know him!"

To be honest.. Dannnnnnnnnnnnnnn seems like such a dynamo.. I wouldn't be surprised if
he ends up P.M. someday !!.
I'm not a good enough liar to get elected, nor am I enough of an arseh*le.

Got rostered 5:30am-2:30pm next Thursday, don't know if I'm depressed because I'll miss the first ball of the ashes or happy I'll get to watch the draft live.

I've been laid off while my damn company gets it's affairs in order, then I'll be re-hired.
If they want me in at any stage on Thursday I'll be telling them to shove it :p

'From now on, we use regular toilet paper, not that fancy quilted kind'.

The Simpsons is that good, that's from probably my favorite ep.

I reckon every episode from the first 10 seasons has a memorable quote or scene.
My personal favourite comes from Mr Burns:
'Morons. Pathetic morons in my employ, stealing my precious money' - applicable to 99% of bosses. I should make a poster to stick up :D

I'm the opposite, I've been rostered 18:00-06:00 :p
