The NBA round 2 playoffs have been COOKED! Boston losing both games at home while having a 20 point lead is crazy. Pacers beating the Cavs twice and the Warriors winning away with Steph getting injured. Never seen anything like this before.
Thunder said **** all that noise today though.

While I have a fellow NBA/AFL lover, is there something in how much they run that makes grade 1 hamstrings supposedly a lot easier to come back from in the NBA. As Jackson proved, its 3 week minimum in the AFL but seems 1-2 week minimum in the NBA

It's always confused me, they can do a hammy and miss 3 games but only 5 days. Have zero ideas on what it is that allows them to come back so much faster.

Their court angles change significantly when they're down on time. Especially for catch and release shooters. For the bigs, they play them mainly in the quay and they rarely get out of a jog, even in a fast break.

how that still stands up to the pressure and athleticism of the NBA consistently astounds me though. You'd think there would be a lot more bodies breaking down, especially the 6ft8+ guys.

Anyone who is slightly interested in football (soccer) should watch the highlights to both UEFA semi-finals games. Absolutely incredible.

This is the first soft tissue injury in Stephs career, they have A LOT more money to spend when it comes to S+C but still. Amazing.

Freo fans should start packing out their home games in our dockers gear

Might be the only way to remind the AFL we are pushing shit uphill over here
Haha might have to get in early.

I suspect for the first year or so while the novelty is there most home games will be sold out.

RL fans now have an excuse to travel to Perth and watch there team play.

Plus Bears fans will be trickling across for home games.

Different demands - kicking is about as hard on hammies as you can get in terms of stretch.

Plus the running demands are in different categories - distances covered in Aussie Rules are >> basketball. The average distance run per game by the NBA player covering the most distance is just shy of 5km/game (this is the league leader), whereas the AFL league lead will be something like 15km/game. The average AFL player will cover twice the distance of the NBA league leader per game.

I guess it’s kinda obvious when you look at the number of games played per season tho… nobody could play that number of AFL games in a season and still perform at any sort of decent level.

That was a really interesting dive into searching. The sources I found indicated that the male athletes are at 12-15 km per match, and the female athletes 6-8km per match.

Looking across other sports, those are huge in comparison. The female numbers are on par with the rugby codes; which seemed to be the next most.

The US sports were pitiful numbers in comparison, American football at around 2km.

Put an AFL player in the NFL and a 160 kg linebacker would kill him on the first play.

Put that linebacker in the AFL and their heart would give up on them before they could tackle anyone.

I do think Aussie Rules at the highest level has the most demanding mix of required endurance and physicality. There are more aerobic sports like water polo or soccer with having no real interchanges and more physical sports like rugby/gridiron but plenty of skilful players don't make it in this game simply because they don't have the physiological attributes.

Interesting that Mal Meninga is a possible coach of the Perth Bears.
That will give them some relevance, and they will get a team that will be successful early I reckon so they can make inroads in to WA market.
After all, WA footy probably at it's weakest point considering both AFL teams are not real flash at present.
Ironical if WA starts getting more league interest, after the AFL just took it for granted for decades

And who would we appoint to actually do the coaching?

Expecting the Perth Bears to last as long as Mal’s political career

Perfect timing for NRL to have a crack.
Western Force have been pretty underwhelming support wise as far as I know.
Its a very similar game.
(As far as I know)
🤣

The Spurs and big Ange have the chance to make history starting at 3am. Spurs always hurt me like Freo, but just like Freo, I will always bleed and love this club. The fact it has Australia's best ever manager coaching that team makes it all the more sweeter.

Please spurs.... Don't Spurs/Freo this!
