Nothing in the AFL is surprising... just saying 🤔

It's time the AFL turned off the life support machine. The patient "ain't gonna make it".

With the AFL forced into agreeing on a Tasmanian team, and the presence North already have down there, all the planets are perfectly aligned.

It's about time the AFL actually did something that's "good for football".
They will improve. I still think Melbourne at their worst were worse than North is now, and they ended up winning a flag before us.

I have never got the Petty thing but tonight I saw a player that could make a difference.
Would you make the deal this year or wait it out until FA, and if so, what would you give up for him?

This year's first rounder needs to be reserved for the best available mid IMO.

Yep.

We’re gonna roll with the grab who evers willing when they’re willing strategy though I feel.

Melbourne had some lean years for sure. But they have a rock solid supporter base and the same prestigious home ground for maybe over a century. This stuff might seem token but it's the biggest difference. North are literally on life support by any measure. No supporters, shared soulless home ground, no definitive geographic heartland and very few in the wider AFL community prepared to fight for them as a club. This is because there's nothing worth fighting for. It's over for them and most people see this clearly.

If Fitzroy and South Melbourne could be relocated, surely North must either fold or become absorbed by the Tassie Devils.

It was definitely more common back in the old days.

Richmond were 7th with 95.3% after Round 15, 2019.
Fremantle in rounds 9 and 10 of 2017 tops it. 5th with 90.6%, then 7th with 81.5%.
For a late one, North Melbourne were 5th with 97.8% after round 17, 2008.
2005 had so many that I don't even want to list them.
Kangaroos (again) were 6th with 96% after round 11, 2003.
Adelaide were 6th with 95.2% after round 10, 2001.
Kangaroos (again) were 4th with 97% after round 9, 2000. Later that year, Geelong were 4th with 96.8%.
North Melbourne (again?) were 6th with 91.8% after round 9 in 1995.

The absolute best that I found was in 1991, and shockingly enough, it was North Melbourne again. There was a few weeks in a row where they had a really low percentage for their position, but the best example comes from round 20: 5th position, 11-7, 92.3%.

We simply cannot afford to give up our 2024 or 2025 1st for Petty which will be the starting point of any discussion with Melbourne. Especially more so given they should be used on acquiring the best mid at our draft position.

A rebuild takes time and winning a flag involves a number of strategic steps in trading/drafting players and having the right people to lead the Club.

No way if it involves 1st round picks.
I’d rather them try to use this years and next years 1st round picks to get as early a selection as possible for the best midfielder

He's coming back from a serious injury... but yeah, we dodged a bullet.

Just don't see why we would consider him til a FA, by which time we will know how he has come back from a serious injury.

The only valid reason would be that we believed him the difference between a flag or not in 24 and 25. Total insanity.

Its too early to call..

If we finish 9th or 10th our first round pick may be in jepardy of being gobbled up on a bid for Welsh..

If thats the case then getting rid of it for Petty might be an option..

But theres no way we should be putting next years on the table for him too in that deal..

Even the Lever deal only took two late first rounders with a very early second coming back our way..

If melbourne play hard ball we just tell petty “sorry, seems your club doesnt want to play… see ya next year when we’ll definitely get you as a FA”..

Port cant come in and cut our lunch as they have no draft capital again this year..

But like I said… lots of stuff to pan out before trade week..

Where do we finish? And..
What value pick does Welsh look to be commanding by seasons end?..

Given Port are not in the picture this year for Petty, we have some leverage in waiting to get Petty in 2025.

We wont be using our 2024 1st, so why waste a 2025 1st on Petty, when we can have both our 2025 1st and Petty in 12 months time.

North don't even look like being a chance of winning a game

Will be an interesting trade/draft period for Norf.

Top end of the draft appears stacked with mids which is the only position they look to have covered in the short to medium term. Desperately need Key Position players to balance their list, pick one would have to be up for grabs.

Once he becomes a FA, Port definitely come into the picture.

I'd rather we try and trade up to around 4 or 5 and get ahead of any realistic bids. But until the bottom 6-8 are settled, we won't know. Looking at ladder as of Sunday morning, can't see any of the bottom 4 getting out. So looking at the teams we're competing with to not finish in the next 4, it's pretty good competition we're in.

Butts and our first for NM's first?

Probably a bit unrealistic ...

When they lost they lost big and the wins never make up for it

Rounds 3-5 they lose by 70+ each game

But win the next 6 for a gain of 150 - lose next by 35 win by 44 lose by 64 win by 6 and 13 lose by 74 win by 3 lose by 52 etc etc until losing to us by 73 points the last round

Caleb Serong’s disposal is worse than Rory Laird’s.

Beautiful day at the G..

Sunday arvo..

Stadium barely half full..

So..
Where’s all the Tigers supporters that came out of the woodwork after 2017 gone???..
