There's a difference between striking and throwing the ball at someone.

Smith incident was striking.

If he threw the ball that would have been misconduct.

Intentional, low impact, high = 1 week (I think)

Geelong = can win it all. Preliminary final at the very worst.
Hawthorn and Adelaide = finals contenders, but not there yet when it comes to winning a flag. Could make a preliminary final if the ball bounces the right way.

Can't really talk of Adelaide in the same sentence as Hawthorn. They are a long way ahead of us.

Except it's a game against Freo on an MCG sized oval in round 7. And Freo are still as flakey as shit, I don't think it's likely anyone is catching Hawks, Pies or Cats on a not turning up day in September at the MCG.

Definitely there is, but it's normally around this time of year where the trend starts emerging. What we don't have this year is a club that is touted as being unbeatable, which rarely turns out, although, last year's version did make the GF.

Not only has the 4th umpire added to the inconsistency, it's added a 4th umpire who is not up to standard.

The umpiring has never been worse & Dillon is delusional thinking it's been the best ever.

I always thought the 4th umpire should be up in the stands watching the telecast where they can radio down calls. Because the AFL have told umpires we don't want you standing in front of the camera due to their positioning they miss so many calls. If an umpire was watching what every footy fan is watching at home they wouldn't miss as many I feel. Does help with the interpretations but its at least a step closer to getting a better consistency from them. Also means older experienced umpires can prolong their career.

I still think the AFL need an initiative to get players who've been in an AFL system for 3-5 years after being delisted a pathway to becoming an umpire. We need more umpires who knows and understand the game better than these fitness freaks

Have thought the same where a 4th umpire watching the TV footage could mean miked up to the other umpires & let them know of the obvious free kicks in real time.
