Roos conceded 77 Inside 50s to Geelong. Cats still have Essendon, Port and Richmond. They'll end up on 150%.

We held Geelong at bay tonight with a big win of our own, but feels inevitable they will overtake our percentage with their draw.

We could go 3-1 from here and not make top 2.

Finishing top 4 still gives a home prelim and week off opportunities though.

I think North will eventually get it together. There is too much talent to not push up the ladder.

The football world flipped out two months back when Cornes had a crack at them. Not just Sheezel but the overall performances under Clarko.

Feels like now is the time for a young coach to take over the group.

Their recruiting has been all wrong though, majority midfielders and not key position players till later in the rebuild.

CANNOT BELIEVE - so many articles about last night are starting with Greene's awesome verbal comeback at half-time to a FoxFooty question about Papley.

Seriously, we cannot be at this stage when it comes to "offence" can we?

Let's hear what Papley said to Greene and compare ...
It gets made a big deal cos everyone posts/comments about it not being offensive, and makes threads etc. We love it. Then the media creates a segment talking about it on fox footy cos they know the punters wanna tune in and get riled up over it. Then it becomes a thing where we spend way too much time 'discussing' trivial shit.

If Butters departs Port, that will become a bigger blow than Danger leaving us. And they gambled ridiculously on players who aren’t the ones. Luko is no RTT and Rioli is no Rankin. I know JHF was part of the Rioli trade and he’s a gun, but they have paid a lot and have little return for it. These things can turn around quickly for some (Hawks) and terribly for others (Eagles and Roos). They are going to feel some pain again next season you’d think.

I think they will be okay. I always think the top talent is the hardest part and they have a fair bit of that with more to come in with academy and father /sons based on current trajectory. JHF carried the team last year and he hasn't been fit all year

They have missed with free agents and mature recruits but that can be corrected over a few years.

Every club has seasons where everything goes wrong early and the team just falls apart. They were due as they have had a heap of luck over the years.

Losing Butters will hurt but getting NWM will help.

Despite what we all hope they are no where near a West Coast rebuild.

They need a broom through the department, and to go again with their rebuild. They've botched it by recruiting too many similar mids, brought in discards or has-beens from other clubs like Daniel, Stephens, Logue etc. Cut the losses with Clarkson who has not adapted to the modern game and bring in a young coach with fresh ideas.

I know most people on this board want them folded (and I wouldn't be sad to see them go), but the league won't let that happen yet.

So just to get this straight:

Port gave up Dan Houston and pick 8 to get Jack Lukosius, Joe Richards and Joe Berry.

We gave up picks 28 and 36? for ANB and Peatling.

Says it all really.

I posted this about Clarkson a few years ago:

Had a chat with a guy who used to work at Hawthorn.

Said I was surprised that after Clarkson had so much success building via the draft when he started that he didn't go back to that well. Instead tried to top up, recruit, trade away all their picks.

I asked why the change of mindset.

He said the difference was that when Clarkson started he was a rookie coach and hadn't won four flags.

At the beginning he had no say in list management, minimal in recruitment, nothing on contracts. There was separation of powers. Chris Pelchen had the say over the list, Clarkson just coached the team he was given.

However once he'd won four flags Pelchen was gone and Clarkson basically ran the show. Graham Wright didn't say no to him. Did everything his way including list management. And they nosedived
Clarkson as part of a team vs Clarkson running the show himself

Things are also looking really dire on the port board... they are at rock bottom.

They have some top end talent who should be hitting their peaks. But they have too many holes in their list to be any kind of threat. With no top end draft pick this year. The problem with nwm is that he's not a need for them. They need top end bigs and small fwds to complement Georgie. Probably just need 2 or 3 pieces imho

The myth of Josh Carr being a tough/hard coach is getting ridiculous.

Their midfield became softer under his tenure. Under Voss their midfield was tough and one of the best in the comp.

Now they are just stat padders, and they moved Rozee to HB so he can rack up cheap ball.

Their is no evidence in his coaching career that the way he played is how he coaches. In fact it is quite opposite.

They’ll get NWM and the Port Praise Brigade will be out in force whilst tut-tutting the AFC for failing to land him.

Unfortunately if Butters goes then that kinda :p (to put it mildly) offsets NWM coming in.

If they keep Butters, then he, JHF, NWM, Rozee, Bergman and Georgiades is a good group. Unfortunately the rest is where things fall apart and it takes more than a handful of good players to be a contender nowadays.

If NWM chooses to go there then he isn’t overly serious about being a footballer and playing for a winning side. Fair enough then and good luck to him - have fun with that 🤷‍♂️

I gotta give credit to Yze and Richmond, at least Richmond seem competitive in most games.

For a team a lot of people thought wouldn't win a game, they have had a good season. Compared to North or West Coast who still have heaps of games they don't fire a shot in

And I’m not sure where they get the picks or players to trade for NWM. He won’t be cheap

They need to bring in high end talent through the draft. They have been trying to find the missing piece for a while now and continue to trade out of the pointy end of the draft.
If they bring in NWM, they will go another 2-3 years without access to the first round, unless they trade out Butters (who was their only good player last night)
