The AFL and airlines will want to maximise the incoming Victorian pies fans, that will be a factor. That makes it more likely to be Saturday

We won’t be playing Saturday night and Saturday arvo is not likely for the broadcaster (this is Collingwood we are talking about).

They will want to maximise tv ratings so it will either be Thursday or Friday night.

They couldn’t give a shit about travelling fans. Remember Virgin is the AFL airline and they only hold 33% of the airline market.

The game at AO will be a sellout so AFL has got their money.

I wonder if they ask us what we want as we are top?? Maybe we will request Saturday to give Max and Rash a few extra days prep
If they are only 1 or 2 days away from being able to play, they probably shouldn’t play

Finals rate regardless

I'm almost certain it will be Saturday afternoon

Hilarious how shrill the media gets when a big Vic team doesn't get the rub of the green with the umps... Gees we've been rear ended for years but never heard them pipe up like this.

Agreed, but, assuming this refers to the handball OOB, it seemed like a pretty deliberate one to me, even though the biased commentators tried to excuse it as the ball slipping off his fist, LOL.

Interstate team gets dudded by the umps: "Team sooking over umpires"

Victorian team gets dudded by the umps: "CONTROVERSIAL AND WWWRROONNGG CALL ROBS POOR INNOCENT DEFENCELESS VICTORIAN TEAM"

Murphy Reid would be a very deserving Rising Star winner

Looks an absolute jet who'll impact September already

Curtin was on fire for a while and had his nose in front but has tailed off a fraction. Reid has finished strong.

Has any team missed finals with a % of 137?
Saints in 2012 had 123%

On the other side Essendon had 159% in 2000
2006 Crows at 142%
Cats 152% in 119 year
Cats 161% in 2008
Saints 2009 155%

2011 was a big year
Collingwood 167%
Geelong 157%

Hawks in 2015 finished 3rd with 158%

But none of those teams missed the finals...

Thursday night finals game is an awful idea…
We hosted the very first Thursday night game (against Collingwood, in 2014) and it was a novelty for a little while. But I hate it. I hate getting home so late on a work night. But of course fans who want to show up are of very secondary importance to the AFL.

Can someone explain to me like I’m five why Geelong won’t play any finals at Geelong?

I thought that was the whole point of the redevelopment.
Probably something in the MCG Contract that they must play finals at mcg as often as possible. Dont they have to reach a certain number of finals games there during this 50 year contract.

I don't believe that's the case.

My understanding is that if there is at least one Final to be played in Victoria in any given week of the finals, then at least one of those Finals must be played at the MCG.

In other words... 1x Vic Final = 1x MCG Final, 2x Vic Finals = 1x MCG Final, 1 at MCG or Docklands.

There is no longer any requirement to play a final at the MCG if no Victorian team has qualified for a Home Final. This was finally removed after the 2004 debacle, when Brisbane were forced to play a home PF at the MCG (and subsequently lost the GF the following week).
