The perfect week 1 finals fixture would Friday Night Adelaide v Collingwood (QF), Saturday Arvo 1PM GWS v TBC (EF) Saturday Twilight 4PM Freo v TBC (EF), Saturday Night 7PM Geel v Bne (QF).

I don't believe that's the case.

My understanding is that if there is at least one Final to be played in Victoria in any given week of the finals, then at least one of those Finals must be played at the MCG.

In other words... 1x Vic Final = 1x MCG Final, 2x Vic Finals = 1x MCG Final, 1 at MCG or Docklands.

There is no longer any requirement to play a final at the MCG if no Victorian team has qualified for a Home Final. This was finally removed after the 2004 debacle, when Brisbane were forced to play a home PF at the MCG (and subsequently lost the GF the following week).
Thats basically what i meant. If there is a game to be played in melbourne it will be at mcg. If no games in melbourne bad luck. But over the course of the contract there is a certain number of games that are required to be played at MCG. Which they will reach no problem, Hence why they dont have to play one game a week of finals there.

I’d like to know the result of Geelong Brisbane first, to know if we need to throw the first final. You don’t want to play a prelim at the Gabba. But the MCG, that’s fine.

Relax folks, I’m only kidding, we’re not throwing the first final.

But it would still be nice to know.

We hosted the very first Thursday night game (against Collingwood, in 2014) and it was a novelty for a little while. But I hate it. I hate getting home so late on a work night. But of course fans who want to show up are of very secondary importance to the AFL.
I used to love them before I had kids. These days it just means a game I can write off attending immediately as there's no way my 8yo is coping at school the next day after getting home at 11:30-12:00.

The current contract requires that at least ten finals matches (plus all grand finals) be played at the MCG during every rolling five-year period. This stipulation could require the AFL to schedule a non-Victorian team's home match at the MCG to meet the quota, in the event that non-Victorian teams dominate the competition for an extended period.[2]

Based on the current contract between the AFL and the Victorian Government, the grand final will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground every year until at least 2059, regardless of the states of origin of the teams involved.

One thing that has really struck me this year is just how overrated the Bulldogs are with the footy media.

I heard Leigh Montagna a couple of weeks ago trying to justify why the Bulldogs weren't up there with the top 4 and he claimed that the Bulldogs have an elite list, but are still a year or two away from being a powerhouse.

If you look through their main ball movers they're over 30 or close to(Bont turns 30 in a month, Libba 33, Dale 29, English 28), there's a good portion of their list that's around 25-26 and in prime so I don't see how they're supposedly going to get better in the next couple of years.

They need more than just Ryley Sanders and Darcy to carry this group forward in the new few years, no disrespect to the Bulldogs, but I just don't see the hype.

I believe this is no longer the case. My understanding is that there is no minimum number of Finals to be played at the MCG, with the MCC having been compensated largely by giving Collingwood more H&A games at the MCG.

Yes, this is the case.

That Freijah bloke goes alright.

Charlie Cameron's debut, Tex's ACL comeback, and the minor Josh Jenkins' sirengate controversy?

I must admit that I didn't check them all, just went from memory.

Even so, the 2012 Saints % was still 15% lower than the Dogs' 2025 %.
The question was has anybody been better

The Saints were the closest which I assume I implied

Can someone explain to me like I’m five why Geelong won’t play any finals at Geelong?

I thought that was the whole point of the redevelopment.
AFL make more money having them play at the G...

Clubs don't receive match day revenue for Finals. Each venue is neutral, AFL collect it.

They do have the best top-end talent in the league, however, if you can't defend, you can't win big games of football.

The single best decision Nicks made this year was realising our early results weren't likely to stack up against the best sides and decided to double down on developing our defensive game.

I am of the opinion I hope we dont win the first final. Hope we get screwed by the umps.

Then suddenly we know what we have to do and that if we can make the MCG Grand Final we get one of the best players in the AFL back.

He must have changed again
