More likely bottom 4 by the looks of it.

The only thing they can hang their hat on is the midfield being competition best. Helps them keep scoring. So bottom 4 is a stretch because it is an advantage for them against sides who dont have the midfield and suspect defence and forward lines. So they will beat up on sides with that midfield. Thats a given.

Can someone explain to me like I’m five why Geelong won’t play any finals at Geelong?

I thought that was the whole point of the redevelopment.

The redevelopment was part of the Commonwealth Games spend that was paid for by the Vic Government (once again Geelong gets another huge leg up).

It's home state finals that are played at capacity appropriate venues, it's'the same reason why the Bulldogs don't play finals at Marvel.

Geelong V Brisbane will most probably have about 60-65k at the G versus 40k down at shit hole stadium.

It's all financially driven by the AFL by how much money they can make.

So not much will change under Carr?

That pretty much sums up Kenny's reign.

Beat up in teams for ladder position with a strong midfield and fail in Finals where depth across the 22 is important.

Is Zac Butters really going to waste the best years of his career there.

The greatest gift he could give Port now, go back to victoria and get Port top 10 picks they can use in the draft. By staying he is only prolonging the crash. If he leaves this year they can pump 22 games into the draftees they get from the picks. If he stays, thats a 12 month delay on getting those picks through compensation and what if he does his knee? compensation could be lower.

Bottom line, Port need to avoid the compromised drafts of Tasmania. So they should be eyeing off as many top picks they can get their hands on.

Meanwhile

Port 'hold my beer' as they send a message to all clubs, we will trade every pick we got for every fringe B, C grader you got!

To be fair Carr inherited the flog list. Cant punish him for that. I think he will pump games into a lot of young guys next year. Judging by the way Port selected this is almost certainly the direction. But the midfield will just keep doing what it does.

He has been there for three seasons.

Very much part of the issues they have.

If he hasn't been able to have any influence he has been a shit assistant coach.

Or if he has been holding back waiting to be head coach, he has cares more about Josh Carr success. Not Port Adelaide success....

They had the worst overall list in the league already.

Great midfield, one pretty good secondary key forward, one brilliant (but old) defender but that's it.
Not sure about overall worst.

It’s highly unbalanced but at least it has star power unlike some others.

Problem for Port is they need an overhaul in defence. It’s essentially a 30 year old Aliir and nothing else.

He is an assistant coach. the program was always to try and snare a premiership to prove the doubters on Kern wrong. Cant blame Carr for that.

We hosted the very first Thursday night game (against Collingwood, in 2014) and it was a novelty for a little while. But I hate it. I hate getting home so late on a work night. But of course fans who want to show up are of very secondary importance to the AFL.

Im frustrated because its a big **** you to people who were banking on a weekend game. Which I have just been ****ed over as a thursday timeslot is ****ing terrible for international viewers.

he is an assistant coach, buy in or F off is the mantra. An assistant coach would have less say on recruitment than the sideline security guard.
Not one aspiring to be the next Head Coach.y

If he's not smart enough to manage up, he is going to be a shit head coach...

Plus his influence on players once they are recruited.

Josh Carr has been in a senior role long enough to have been part of developing that dud list.

Maybe WCE.
In the shorter term I’d take Port over Essendon, Melbourne, North, Richmond and the Eagles. Maybe Carlton (they’re unbalanced as well, just in different ways).

They could challenge for the eight next year. Maybe. They do have match winners.

I think their fans are deluded if they think they’ll be back at the top though.
