So Gold Coast saying they’ll match any bid for King, how do they have the cap space to be able to threaten that?

They only have one player signed more than 3 seasons into the future. We have five for comparison

Plus at some stage they’ll ship of Mac Andrew and pick 10 freeing up a lot more cap.

Which also means they can’t afford to tie up a shit load of cap on one player, they’ve got a team full of stars and potential stars who will all want to be paid.

Maybe. I mean let's assume they make use of that cap space 4 years in the future and massively back end his contract

A decent portion of their list would end their careers before 2030, they have quite a few players over the age of 28. This includes guys like Witts, Miller, Rioli, Petracca, Collins

The next group of the 24-26 year olds includes Ballard, Powell, Anderson, and Rowell. Ballard and Powell are both already signed to 2029 and could be front-loaded. When they're out of contract in 2029 they will be 30 and not commanding big future deals.

Anderson and Rowell are out of contract in 2027 when they'll be free agents. But that's fine as even in 2025 most clubs had three players earning over $1 million and who knows what that will look like in 2030

The rest of their list are younger players. I mean maybe they'll command big deals but in 2030, Zeke Uwland will be a fifth year player and probably replacing someone like Touk Miller or Lachie Weller in the pay structure

I think they have built their list to challenge within the next four years and would be fine doing silly deals beyond 2030 to ensure that team stays together

Oh, yes it did.

The edges and top few rows of the Western Stand, River bank and members were all packed. The hill was also packed as well.

When we get below 40,000 you can see lots of empty seats in the Riverbank and members area.
Yeah I use the corners of the Riverbank to judge fullness - most of those are the General Admission and Interstate Supporters seats

Everyone jumping on always Keays with the AFL saying not to do it again… I think is, fair?

People are saying they’ll dress up as opposition supporters to give their team 50s etc are missing the points. Obviously the free/50 isn’t for the fans actions but for the player instructing someone from the crowd. Pretty easy to tighten it up with a rule (no player should direct the crowd) or whatever. Can also use it if a player taunts or abuses fans so I’m surprised it doesn’t exist already.

We are completely unsure how to connect with the forwards. We might dominate and not score.

Not in that situation because the opposition is no better than a witches hat.

If a team is unwilling to pressure/harass and generally work hard, they're going to get belted, no matter what the opposition does.

Weve scored over 180 points in 2 games against a very good defensive side and the best starting midfield in the game, after playing about an hour of good footy.

God help everyone if we do get our **** together.

There's things to worry about in life, losing to Essendon isnt one of them

I wonder if the crowd starts holding things up at what point they’ll have spare balls around the boundary, so if it goes in the crowd they can just play on like they do from the goals

So ...because a Club decides to backend a player's Contract .....it has changed his Free Agency status to "An Unrestricted Free Agent" ......surely an unintential consequence by the EAGLES

I think this is a typo ....they mean unrestricted rather than restricted

Why would back ending a contract make you unrestricted?

Why would back ending a contract make you unrestricted?
Because it apparently then put him into the top 10 paid players at the Club .....rather than the last year being used as the trigger, I would have thought the Contract average over it's life would be the correct path of determination

They like the rules which are vague where the free could be paid either way, as it allows them to influence games easier...

There were numerous times where the same play resulted in different decisions on the weekend's game.
Absolutely true. All AFL rules, both on field and off and set up to be manipulated so that a desired outcome can be reached.

Hilarious if that is what they are going with. Would not have been 40,000 there. Empty seats everywhere. 36,000 looked correct.
As per usual the AFL just make sh!t up to suit their agenda.

If Pendlebury had done it the media would be full of stories about how smart he is and what a great tactic it was...
and then mention what a great bloke he is
and that he used to play basketball
