The problem is that people have overcorrected with Smith, to the point that he now gets away with objectively poor behaviour because he’s “showing personality”.
As I posted, there's still a line that can't be crossed .....but trying to get Smith to conform with the average AFL Footballer, is going to end in tears for GEEL

They've tried this stunt B4 with Mark Jacko Jackson .....in this age, you can't get all players to be whitewashed grey

There wouldn't be much interest in Sholl if any. For a number 64 draft pick he has done well to survive on the list for so long.

Today's football you can't have guys who are too easily moved off the ball as defensively as they become a liability.
Oh, there's a lot of players like Sholl getting regular games in the AFL .....he's not as bad as that, and there would be Clubs prepared to list him

Weren't CARL interested at one stage ?

But their current approach has ended in tears. He needs to be reined in, and if he can’t handle that then honestly **** off out of the league.

Their professional athletes, public image is a part of the gig whether they like it or not. If he wants to do whatever he likes go be an influencer or something and he won’t have to worry about the accountability.

I can say to you, your POV with GEEL would be an entirely different one if he were a Crows Player ;)

I'm of the POV, the player can be whatever he likes in his own time .....as long as he doesn't cross that line of morality, and bringing the game into disrepute
The above arguable, depending on which Club you follow

Bailey Smith is a flog.

Him wearing a bandanna with long hair - attention seeker then add in his social media posts together with his treatment of the female journalist.

Screams - FLOG!

No. I don’t think that’s fair at all.

In multiple threads on this board I’ve pretty consistently argued against defending our players when they **** up.

My point stands. Bailey needs to pull his head in. If he can’t handle a club actioning that then frankly, he doesn’t belong in the league.

Wasn’t Hobbs delisted? I would absolutely offer a contract his way.
Why, as looks to be rather average? Nothing really stands out.

Would prefer we invest games into both Draper & Edwards.

Had to laugh at the AFL 'threatening' Geelong over Smith's behaviour. Utterly pathetic and transparent from the jokes at AFL house after the criticism they copped for their investigation into Geelong's salary cheating.
What are they going to do? Penalise Geelong by gifting them another first round pick? Smack them with another million dollar recruit?

Even worse, hit them with a draw that penalises them from having to play against the big crowd drawing sides more than once. Double ups v the bottom sides just to show them they are in the bad books and are not going to get the big games...(in other words give them the softest draw possible)

Highly likely.I guess another trip to that shithole for us in 2026 then...

Sending them to Ballarat to play the Dogs would be pretty hilarious.

I suspect there is alot else going on that no one wants to report. Not to the extent of Clayton Oliver but not that far behind.

What I don't get with the Port and Butters situation is everyone keeps saying they will match whatever to force a trade.

While I get they probably will, is it as simple as just saying that and showing a peice of paper? As an example does it restrict what you can offer other players. Let's say we got in a bidding war over Zac Bailey. Can they offer the same money to Bailey and Butters knowing that Butters won't accept.

Is there anything else a club needs to do? If not why doesn't every club just say they will match.

Well he openly stated to random strangers on x that he's keen for nose beers after the season finished, so it's not hard to imagine what he's up to

He went on the Swann overseas tour, but without the discretion.

On the topic of Zac Bailey, would he qualify as a South Australian under the new State of Origin eligibility? I heard/read somewhere that eligibility will be based off the location of the junior club a player is drafted from and not from where they may have spent the majority of their upbringing.

So, if a player boarded in different state to which they originate from, on a sports scholarship for their final two years of schooling, and was therefore drafted from the state league of which he boarded, he'll represent that state instead of where he actually grew up? 🤔
