While it's a shocking look when you see in many soccer leagues around the world the players becoming physically demonstrative when referees make calls they don't like, and I've always been glad Aussie rules has never been that bad and I can understand why they want to remove any chance of that coming into the game, common sense suggests they are going about it in a totally backwards and stupid way
I agree, just like umpires can talk to players and call them by their name, players should be able to respectfully talk to umpires.

If a free is paid and you have no idea what for (and this happens too often), it's human instinct to raise your arms and say "what was that for?". It's not disrespectful, it's inquisitive.

If there's any swearing or yelling, sure, pay a free, but for a calm question there's no issues.

Are the umpires being disrespectful to players when they point at a player and say it's your free kick?

As always, the intent of the AFL is right, but it's been more policy on the run, and very poorly implemented, just like the stand rule, the changes to the interchange sub, the new HTB rules, etc.

These dissent rules are such bullshit. Frustration with umpiring going against you is just a side effect of being passionate. I get that there has to be a line that you don't cross but they're taking it way too far atm.

Another thing, the ****ing idiots at the AFL that decided 50m penalties were a fair punishment for showing some frustration at the umps, and also that protected zone rule, need to to be loaded into a rocket and shot into the sun.

"There's no acceptable level of dissent towards umpires. If players show demonstrable dissent, then they're risking a free kick or 50m penalty.

"As to what that level looks like, that's up to the umpire to decide"

Haha. Jesus. This will end well.
Really cleared it up, did Brad.

Brad Scott's comments show how inept he is.

So the umpires got all those 50m decisions 100% correct.

Except for the ones they didn't pay.

Which were at least as many as the ones they did.

So success rate less than 50%.
If it's up to highly trained umpires to decide what's a free and they are only getting 50% right, then there's something wrong with the rule!

They need to overshoot the mark to correct the childish AFL culture towards umps.

I like the Rugby Union model. Get frustrated only captain can talk to them.

Brad ****ing Scott. Of all people. Telling you not to show dissent.

Does he think we forgot his entire playing career?

This is like John Holmes telling you not to show anyone your massive ****.

I need help!

Can anyone tell me where I can find stats about the players in the 2004 Port premiership

Thanks 👍

We are screwed if we are leaving it to individual unpires to decide what level of dissent is acceptable.

May as well say the players can't communicate at all with them because they are precious...

It’s worse than that, you can’t even show your own frustration as they’ll take it as frustration at the decision.

I do like a read of the Port board once or twice a year...

Ken is delusional, he thinks we just have to work harder for longer...what we need to do is start wearing our prison bars...
They were so happy to learn about today's scheduled press conference last night......
