AFL is well and truly beyond cooked. I'm seriously thinking about chucking in my membership next year because they're making the game completely unwatchable.
My Dad have up his membership this year after 24 years because of the umpiring.

Sadly hitting them where it hurts (the hip pocket) is the only way we will get change. I still put myself through the pain for some reason....

The AFL don’t give a shit about that, they’ll just put that on to the clubs as long as they secure record tv rights deals. The only organisations that hurts are the clubs.

I hate how stupid the AFL is. They are trying to cure the symptom rather than the cause.

I watch a lot of American sport and it is not uncommon for players and coaches to complain and moan about umpires, sometimes right in their face yelling and carrying on. And from what I can tell they don’t have an umpire shortage in basketball, baseball, hockey etc.

Do you know what they do have? Full time umpires.

This is an embarrassment and the AFL should be embarrassed.

Yes, kids should never be abused. But if you don’t want people upset with the umpires, spend money on training them and have a proper full time career. Also get rid of so many contradicting free kicks to simplify their job.

Gil and Scott are morons, the better they go the better.

I don't blame him. The two main issues the AFL has at the moment are

1) Umpiring and the confusing rules and interpretations.

2) The playing standard is so poor for a professional sport. It's not a handful of games a round but more like half a dozen. So many average teams.

It’s quite the spectacle in MLB. Sure, the players/managers get tossed for it, but they usually wait for the player/manager to explode before tossing them.

Imagine if MLB adopted the AFL stance. Teams would be forfeiting daily.

Of course, the irony of this is that its’s Brad Scott enforcing this.

so Ditts on MMM this morning said that the AFL sent a video to all clubs showing 15 examples from last weeks games of dissent towards an umpire that should have resulted in 50m penalties (apparently 8 of those were from Crows players).

Are they suggesting that they are going to start paying 50m for all of these should they keep occurring?

The game will be far worse off for it.
Should give away 30 dissent 50m penalties in one game on purpose when our season is shot just to male a mockery of it and embarrass the AFL [emoji1787]

Imagine if both side made a point of arm waving after every decision...

NFL refs aren't full time, but the other leagues are.

America has a huge umpire shortage at lower levels. Blamed on spectator behaviour .

Does not meant the AFL's approach is right though.

You know one of the best bits in these clips is that the commentators don't automatically agree with the umpire.

Never been a member of an AFL club and can’t see myself ever being one. My interest has waned massively over the last 10 years, I like to see Adelaide do well but I’d barely watch a full game a week now. I don’t consume any AFL related media apart from tuning in briefly to SEN on my work commute if bored.
The Victorian-centric competition has done my head in for far too long now to bother with it, commentary is horrible, media is sycophantic and basically just series of gossip columns.
I’m more than happy to go watch Sturt play each week without bullshit gossip shoved down my throat each week, I go for the basic love of my club and a game of footy for footy’s sake, lunch with mates before the game and a beer afterwards.
It’s simple, basic, uncomplicated and a more pure day out that’s easier to enjoy.
