AFL banning AFLW from Marvel due to who knows made up reasons (look of 30 thousand or just under in a 45,000 seat stadium being a bad look or it would operate at a loss by running that facility or some bullshit) they mentioned this week only other Victorian ground available to host was GMHBA.Why is this at ikon park. Aflw used to be played at the highest ranked clubs home. Like us playing at Adelaide oval getting a full house in the first year
Maybe North don't have enough fans. If it was two Victorian teams, I'm sure they'd reconsider. One side of Ikon is being redeveloped, so one side of the ground has 1 row of fans behind the goals. Imagine kicking the winning goal at the GF and there's only like 10 people behind the goals because it's under redevelopment. Why is this at ikon park. Would be better at marvel. To get more people in
She doesn’t surprise me how good she is when you see how hard she works on her game, would put in the most hours on her game by a long way. Has a close partnership with the ‘Enhanced Football’ guy in Queensland that works with lots of AFL and AFLW players on their game, so nearly works on her game everyday of the year.Dawes is seriously impressive; speed, aggression, strength and she's only 162cm. If she had height, she'd be the ultimate mid - that fend off while being tackled near the boundary was huge, then to keep running to receive.
They have so much depth though and managed to attract players like Sheerin in the off season. When you look at their team though, Riddell and Garner are the main massive stars. Everyone else are just solid team players.Almost has got to the point where the AFL need to force teams to put maximum contracts to North Melbourne players to try to break up their team otherwise it could be years before another team can stop them.
Brisbane have made 7 grand finals out of a possible 9 for only 2 premierships.
EDIT: Brisbane have managed only 3 goals in the last 2 grand finals!

They don't have a winning record against a single team in grand finals. The closest is going 1-1 against us.
Lost to Bulldogs, lost to Melbourne, and are 1-2 against North.
Realistically, being able to consistently be the second-best team over ten seasons is pretty damn impressive. But damn, that's got to sting.
AFL officials are like politicians. They won’t say the actual truth, which is that they want the revenue from over full paying events, no a 1/4 filled Marvel.Once the men's footy season finished the posts and the turf were removed and they dumped it full of dirt for the motocross event there, it was impossible to play a footy game there. That shit will then get removed and the Lady Gaga concert will be there next, the stadium is pretty much booked out until footy starts again. It has to be something that is planned far in advance, long before they know which teams make the grand final.

I don't think the AFL would care about losing one timeslot, they just can't break an existing contract on a whim, these events are planned a long time in advance. Unlike the men's grand final, they do not know where the women's grand final will be until after the PFs given they will play it at the home state of the highest placed team. It is a lot easier to plan when you know where the GF is going to be.
I think they should bite the bullet and ensure there is a proper stadium for the GF, regardless which state is hosting. We've sold out the last three GFs at Ikon within a couple of hours of the tickets being available, there weren't many Brisbane supporters there but there really isn't much of an opportunity for a wider audience to be part of it atm because Ikon doesn't have the capacity.
I think we are still a fair way off making the AFLW GF the spectacle and event that the AFL grand final is. They want the crowds to grow before they commit to doing more but it is miserable watching games at Arden Street with a crowd, it is a training oval, my suburban football team has a better setup, we have grandstands there that can comfortably have triple the capacity. Our season is too short, our lists are too thin, most clubs struggle to be competitive once they have more than a few injuries. It really hasn't been setup to succeed, it is trying to succeed despite the obstacles.
When you look at each Bigfooty team forum and see the engagement in AFLW vs AFL, there is still a big issue in terms of getting the average support invested in the AFLW and it is a shame, if there was more support it would force the AFL to do more.
