I find the Christensen & now Griffen cases interesting because they are mid contract, both signed these in good faith previously but now want to go up north on a whim...
I gather Christensen has some pretty serious personal issues that he doesn't feel he can address if he stays in Geelong. He doesn't specifically need to be in Queensland though.

Does that mean we can start making underlining offers to Dogs players for underlying issues and get there contracts voided also ?
All seriousness.. this is the slippery slope that the AFL must be scared of..

As I said a month ago.. at what point do you consider 'health and safety' concerns enough to breach contract? I get that it is very easy to say 'supplements supplements'.. but I would I have thought a player saying "I'm depressed because the coach rants and raves and belittles me all the time' is actually a far more serious problem than "I participated in a cutting edge, legal and Dr approved supplement program after giving my informed consent"...

Once you open the door on this, you can't close it again. Who is to say what is a health and safety risk and risk to mental health and what isn't?!!

I said at the time.. who is to say that young Witts can't claim that 'Buckley shoving me around on the boundary' was assualt and has created an 'unsafe' working environment and thus leave?? What if he had done the same thing to Cloke.. could Cloke leave too?

Karma is a bitch.. and **** every other club and their supporters.. what goes around, comes around..

At least I know that my Captain will be proudly donning the Sash next year.. suck shit Dogs.

Oh and I hope GWS give you pick 26 and tell you that it is more than 'fair' considering that Griffen WANTS to leave your stink hole of a minnow club.

I would feel sick to my stomach if Jobe did that to us.
I can't believe how calm some doggies fans are about it.. in terms of.. they just hate Griffen.. not worried at all that the club might have a 'bigger' problem..

Honestly.. if you captain walks out in such circumstances.. surely questions, deep questions need to be asked..

If Jobe left like that.. yeah it would make my stomach turn too..

To be fair, I don't blame them for being bloody dirty with Griffen.

Sounds like he conducted business in a fairly nefarious, underhanded manner.

Indicative of a larger problem, though? Yes, almost certainly. And that's a shame, because I like Macca.

Jeez thats a stretch Rines ;)

funny after my big hockey post last night this happens. Rebuilding team trades out star player who happens to be captain for a heap of cool stuff? yeah that happens in hockey

i can understand why the Dogs released their big noisy statement, it's rather Essendon like really, but I hope it's not actually true. they'd be crazy to keep him. he's picked the one club that may actually be able to provide fair value too.

i meanwhile don't get the swans thing, but it seems crazy to me

I know it was mentioned but.. woohoo:
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...-from-trading-players-in-20141009-113sba.html

Sydney Swans very :( because AFL is not letting them cheat anymore.. they are very worried and wondering "How can we attract top talent if we don't pay 10% more?"

Two years too late.. but it seems the fall out from the Buddy trade won't be forgotten at AFL house.

Luckily the Swans can use their 10% better 'culture' to attract and keep players...

The process of rationalization going on on the Dogs board is fascinating to watch. They are all stoked that he is leaving now because they will get early draft picks and build the next super team! How many high draft picks get to the level of Griff ffs?

Personally I don't think the Dogs are just posturing.. I don't think any club ever wants to lose a top 5 midfielder and their captain..

The Swans things is 'AFL level Crazy' but I friggen love it! I'm also laughing the 'outrage' from club Presidents being screwed over.. welcome to our world.. what.. you thought that the same rules apply to everyone? No, no they don't.

Having said that.. I like the choice: You can sign FA using the same cap as everyone else.. or you can keep cheating by 10% but not poach other players.. why should Swans be able to 'beat' any other offer by 10%?? Makes a mockery of the FA system.. as the last two years proved.

I agree.. I'm not saying that picks 3 and 19 wouldn't be nice.. but I would take Griff every time.. proven player who is an out and out star.. vs two young kids that may, or may not, reach half the level of Griff in five to six years time..

Very few.

Griffen leaving is unquestionably a massive loss for them. Worse than Hawthorn losing Franklin last year, I'd say.

Griffen leaving doesn't really have any impact on the Dogs ability to win a flag in the immediate future though, so on that measure the Hawks are bigger losers. The Dogs have no hope either way, Buddy leaving could have cost them a flag. From a purely on field point of view, Griffen being traded probably increases their chances of winning a flag in the future. But obviously the ramifications it could have on the club itself is far bigger

Considering that Griffen was the only proven 'Champion' on that squad (yes they have some nice young players but they are not Champions yet).. will leave a massive massive hole.

Rumours that Cooney and Minson will follow.. Jones will go..

Dogs are now 5 of the top 8 stories on AFL.com.au..

Seriously they are hi-jacking Hird's appeal date with this shite.. I'm very disgruntled!!

ssssshhhhh, we should enjoy it while our turmoil pales in comparison

Im sorry I dont keep up with all this stuff atm but is it common knowledge what is going on at the dogs? I was shocked to read this stuff today about griffin but others dont seem too surprised.
What could be so bad that your captain wants out?

It seems to be many of the older players who are unhappy, rather than all of them.

tbh I'm not sure how much of a loss they are. Sure, Griffen is an excellent midfielder, but they can get a very good deal for him, and they have plenty of good younger midfielders too.

If some of their young guns start wanting to leave, there's a genuine problem. Not so concerned right now.

Not that I wish ill on any other teams.... actually don't give a **** any more, all the other teams can ******* burn for all I care

You're telling me. I have an old man who barracks for the dogs and has an almighty hatred for Essendon. Has been giving me rot for the last 20 months.
Many lolz were had today.

Swans academy boys from left to right, Hiscox, Davis and Heeney.

Good on them for making the photo look like something from a fosters ad from 1987 as well

imagine Jobe leaving us.
As much as its fun to have something to throw back this week, you gotta feel for them. Massive loss. And i don't think picks 4 & 7 are incoming for a guy at his age.
Boyd or Patton seems like a more likely trade. And probably a better one for the dogs
