I am happy with the way the AFL has constructed this part of the draw. Play Thursday before first bye, and that means you must play 2 games on the Friday. Play Monday before the bye may work but then how do you play on the Thursday. Because in effect byes are round 8/9/10 so before and after the bye is Round 7 and 11.

This isn't complicated yaco. You fixture a Monday game at the end of R7 involving two R8 bye teams, and a Thursday game at the start of R11 involving two R10 bye teams. You don't have any issues with short breaks, and you don't end up stringing games out in weeks when there aren't many to start with.

think i just thought of a way to fix the ugly games and congestion? it took 3 tabs of acid and 56 hours of non sleep but i think i have it....

did they not introduce the centre sqaure years ago to stop players from camping at every bounce? then the centre circle to stop it again a few years back?

cant we just introduce a 5 meter/10 meter (whatver the figure is) zone around each stoppage bounce where only the 2 ruckman can be present like it is for the centre bounce?

it may stop the constant rolling mauls because it allows oplayers freer movement and the ball a chance to escape. I know there is the policing of it, but with most rules it becomes habit.

Still think it is easier to just have the "must have at least 3 players in either 50m arcs at all times".. thus meaning on 24 players can be in the middle of the ground at any one time.. not hard to police, no additional markings required and very easy to implement.

Again the key would be (like running through the mark/protected area) good umpiring.. ie if you follow your player out with the ball then it isn't a penalty for all intentions you need to have at least 3 forwards and at least 3 backs that play at their respective ends.

Like I said, it would be as a 'guideline' scenario.. ie you can follow your man out, or of course go at a ball that is in front of you.. so mainly at clear stoppage situations on the wing or in the middle then you need to have your 3/3..

They are doing something like this on a purely 'voluntary' basis in lower levels and working ok. What I don't want is another "interchange infringement" fiasco with flags and waving and unfair penalties..

I think the rule change would be enough to remind coaches they must maintain a structure at all times.. it really shouldn't be that difficult to have 2/3 players in one half of the ground at all times...

yep, i think its the easiest and best.. and its just en extension of what has worked before... from nothing, to a centre square, to a centre circle at bounces.. its just a natural progession ?

Either plan is hard to police in reality.. but I wouldn't mind giving either a chance.. anything to stop the current shitheap maul crap. FFS, Rugby Union teams scored MORE than us this weekend.. unbelievable...
